I just bought as compander to denoise my receive. I hooked up one channel of the compressor to the SSb detector output on my 139Xlr and sent the 2:1 compression to the volume control and to the audio amp. It really boosted weak signals, but the noise increased too. So, i ran the signal from...

If you are talking about the NB circuit in the ORIGNAL 858 Grant, here is a schematic of the circuit and a circuit descripition The NB in the 858 radios was on a seperate circuit board, and if you can get hold of one, it would put you way ahead of the game. Plus . . . they were pretuned...
Good Dxing all day long until I signed off at 8pm. SoCal stations were strong(7-9S) in the afternoon. Then southern states and midwest late afternoon. Finally, Eastern Seaboard from 6pm on. Reverse to the usual pattern of East to West. One contact after another. Lotsa stations in the mud, but...
Thanks 6meter. Great looking quality, but not so great pricing. Looks like professional sellers rather then hams looking to sell excess equipment. Not complaining. If you buy there and not online, you don't pay shipping or taxes. So it's a good thing. Thanks again and 73.

Almost every evening I point my Quad just a little north of dead south to try for some Australian and NewZealand contacts. More often than not I don't get anything. Iguess those operators are pointing toward North america and not South America.

Finally a sunny day and no rain. Skip was so-so in the afternoon and dead in the early evening. Went down to the shack to turn off the lights and lockup around 9:30. Nothing on SSb, but AM skip was rockin.' Every channel from 1 - 25. I jumped in on a quiet spot on CH 18 and hooked up with...
When I lived in SoCal, there were guys who took then new export radios (Cobra 148GTL-Dx, Superstar 360Fm, President Jackson) and set the FM deviation as wide as possible. and then transmitted. Receivers in AM mode will "slope detect" FM and if it's extremely wide can be heard on several adjacent...
We have had non-stop thunderstorms every day. Our farm is totally saturated. Only a couple of dry hours a day, and usually my receive is dead then. Today I went down to the shack at noon. Nothing but stations so deep in the mud that someone with bionic ears couldn't pull them out. I did hear the...

I asked the same questions you asked but to ChatGTP. Here are it's responses:
1. Is the Connex 10 meter radio legal for a Ham operator to use.
The legality of using a Connex 10-meter radio for amateur (Ham) radio operations depends on several factors, including the specific radio...
If we ask ourselves a question and don't know the answer, it's because the information we need isn't in our brain's memory (database). AI works the same way. It can't give you a specific answer if it the data isn't in its memory. This is because AI is in its infancy. Just like a human brain gets...
Stick or automatic ?? I feel better now. I'm not the only one with a cluttered shop. Lotsa CB stuff on the shelves, just like here. Good luck with the truck.

Didn't have much time for radioin' today, but clicked on the cobra around noon and hooked up with WR754 in the California high desert. "Ralphie" and I talked a lot 10 years ago, but this was the first time this cycle. Booming 9+ signal into Colombia. Good half hour QSO before conditions started...
Marconi, even though I never got to meet you and shake your hand, you were always a good friend and mentor. Knowing we can't QSO with Old Grandpa anymore leaves a empty space in all our lives. RIP, Eddie.

I was in the shop working on a new project most of the day. Nothing but static on every channel. But then at about 4pm I heard 609 out of Texas. Old Brad was running his weekly radio roundup on ch 37. 5 to 7 and loud. When I turned my RF Gain up he was in the red. His 5 element and my 4 element...
I was given an MFJ antenna tuner. The owner ran too much power through it. and the slider arched with the tuning coil. I can resurrect the coil, but the slider contact is toasted. I tried to contact MFJ but no reply. Any idea where I can get this part ??
