Sent back to TN
I sent it back, they seemed to think it was a major fix, Said they may replace it. I did unconvert it, before sending it back, mainly to verify the prob was still there in 'Normal' conditions, It was.
All they asked for was a note describing the issue and to send it back...
troubleshooting steps.
Ok, Not knowing the steps you have taken, and the things you have found, here are some things to check...
You did not mention what the bias readings were, but you said you tested the finals in and out, so for now I will assume they are ok.
Check C119 (in front of...
Sending it back
After a short talk with the 800# he agrees that it should be sent back for repair or replacement.
Symtom: Tx on SSB Hi Power only works for 20 Sec. then the radio looses all TX and RX. If you cycle the pwr, it will xmit again, If still in Hi pwr only for 20 sec. It works fine...
Next step
Ok. the next step would be to check the Bias voltages.
That will help determine if the final or driver or Bias Diodes are bad
A bad final may be $$ to replace, but if its a Driver or other minor parts, I would say it is worth getting fixed.
Let me know If I can be of help...
Sending bad 200 back to Cobra..
If I am sending the bad radio in for service or replacement, should I unconvert it?
DTB, have you had any experience with the Cobra service center?
They suggested we send it back for repair/replacement.

Hello
Did I send you an email regarding this already?
If not Email me. Rogerbird @ netscape.net

Or use the link on my webpage, http://Rogerbird.tripod.com
I am thinking its a shorted Cap or bad TX Switch transistor.

HR2830 = Lincoln
Hi,
Sorry been away from the message boards..
The Lincoln is the HR2830. (Almost nobody calls it that anymore)
Most of the mods for the 2510 will work on the Lincoln.
The Micro PCB is slightly different, but converts to the same program. See my site...
Shuts down on High Power
A friend of mine bought one of those, and it works fine on low power, the freq display does not match the in/out freq, and it will almost always shutdown if you put it on High power, Usually midway through a sentence. completet shutdown, ahve to turn it off and back...
The way to do it...
I see several have said it does not convert, the way it should.. If you read carefully, the mod states that just cutting the trace does not complete the mod.. because they chose to connect the trace under the IC as well.. so you have to unsolder the pin and Isolate it from...

Why dont you just turn down the VRs for AM and CW and SSB?
AM VR111
AM/CW VR104
SSB VR103
You should be able to safely get it down below 1W out

JV77
It is just behind the 6 pin wire connector on the Left front side of the Main PCB next to the 8v Regulator that is Mounted on the Chassi. to the left of the 3 diodes.
Measure it for 8v (I get 7.8v)

Questions
I know you have stated that you checked all the voltages on the CPU, But you also state that it has been replaced.. I would check the traces on the top side under the CPU, for breaks or opens. I would check the pins to their associated components on the top and botton of the PCB, for...
Supplies
Hotmelt kit can be found at most hardware stores or Home Depot types. Even WalMart. Usually comes with a HotMelt glue gun and some Glue Sticks.
RTV silicone can be found in the same places.
Neither is typically used for electronics.

Something ellse to look at...
If you look at the pic above, Check to see if the Regulator glue is the tanish yellow or brown or black.
If it is Brown or black(usually brittle, instead of soft), it should be carefully removed and the PCB should be cleaned with Alcohol, then inspected for...
THE year
I have a picture of a MRF455 Circuit Board, from shortly after they began selling them with the 455, the Date on the Circuit board is 1999. So My guess would be early 2000 or late 1999.

No audio...
Does it have the Accessory jumper plug on the rear accessory jack? The radio will not have any rx audio on the internal Speaker without the jumper.
The Standard Jumper plug has one white wire connected from pin 1 to pin 7. This completes the connection to the internal Speaker...
30 dead key on SSB
Should have no Dead Key on SSB.
Check the Carrier balance adj.,
Was the SWR good before?
You may want to install an insulator betwen the final and the heat sink. This will prevent an RF Feedback loop.
Remenber to use heat sink compound on both sides of the...
