Hy-Gain now MFJ has cheapen its products using thinner and thinner materials. Had a neighbor a few miles away break the L bracket out of the box. Bullet proof design is always best. Gave him a old 1970's mounting bracket, now all is well.

Hello All: Here's a good video on the Palomar 300A linear amp. SEE:
Palomar 300A's keep pulling me back in..... - YouTube
This video explains the bridge power supply circuit that is used with 440 volt power transformer. And the use of biasing the tubes to cut off (I would think) in stby mode...
Hello Nomadradio and All: Ok great post verifying that there was two different Palomar 300A configurations, for the power supply circuit. Great stuff.
My Palomar 300A amp has the voltage doubler and a 440 VAC output transformer, thats why when got it off e-pay the power supply caps were toast...
Hello Rick and All: Ok good deal good for you. As Nomadradio has said that the Power Transformer Needs to be verified as too how much High Voltage (HV) it puts out, no more than 280 VAC, (280 x 2.82) as its feed to a voltage doubler and then the power supply capacitors ending in 786 Volts DC...
Hello All: Yeah stainless steel hardware is the way to go. However also using some sort of lubricate on the threads is a must, if you ever take it apart in the further. Theres special stuff for stainless steel and such, I use high quality automotive grease and that works very well. As stainless...
Yeah... The 300A Palomar has a great looking chassie chrome cover makes it look really great.
Many years ago at the TRW swap meet in Los Angles I say a modified Palomar chassie converted using two 4CX250B tubes and a bigger external power supply. It wasn't cheap and I decided to pass it up, but...
The power supply is a Transformer, not a complete power supply. As NoMadradio said the output of the Transformer High Voltage should be no more than 280 Volts.
How ever my Transformer has a output of 440 volts allowing a Power Supply output voltage of 1200 volts which will burn up the power...
Great info here I have transformer with 440 VAC out the HV secondary output and of course that too much Jolts of Volts for the voltage doubler.
So this things uses a relay R4 to switch the primary voltage to the diodes and filter caps, as a PTT function. I would think this is to allow the tubes...
Yep the Noise is out there. Had a noise in the over head Led, and just put in a new one no more noise.
However driving around in town I noticed a loud noise coming in and going out from the 2 meter radio. I noticed that when a car pulled up next to me I heard the noise, woe he had a...
All good advice. You may want to add some mix 31 snap on ferrites on the AC Power line right at the computer. Again EMI/RFI problems aren't the easiest thing to fix, one must keep working on the problem.

Always 73's as this adds a errant value to the guys who get wrapped around the axel over small things like this. Also a few Ten Codes are a help, and ending a conversation saying "I am back out" is also a help.
But the all time classic is using a echo mike on the local 2 meter repeater, wow...
Yo SuperLid: So what was the added capacitance value added and were, and what was the antenna length. Inquiring distinguished super CB'er wants to know.

Ok I reread the posts here. The base unit on the Maco have some Capacitance that is figured into the matching for the V58. Which maybe different for you copy antenna. Need to measure that.

HELLO SL; Maco probably will not help out with a copy of there antennas design, makes sense.
Those matching rings change two values of inductance and one value of capacitance. At one time in adjustment. Not user friendly even with the proper antenna length. Wish I had the majic fix but I...
Hello All: Yeah I ran into these guys a few months back. Had my old Tram 201A fired up and cooking on CH16 LSB what a great group to have a QSO with. Well worth listening to.

Yo JDChet: Don't feel bad about fixing RFI ( Radio Interference ) problems I have seen Senior Electromagnetic Engineering's walk away from RFI problems throwing their hands in the air, setting down playing with their spit and saying Coo Coo.
This science is a animal all to its own...
