10-11 meter beam antenna skip range generalities.
36 feet= Good for E layer and shorter F2 (1000-2250 miles)
46-52 feet= Slightly diminished short hop, great for 1500-3500 miles. High enough for double hop. Best all around height.
72-100 feet= Almost no short skip. best for international...
I wonder if there is some low level audio-frequency warble/buzz/hum/tone in LSB transmit only that is affecting the frequency counter throwing the reading off.
Try listening to the transmit of both the LSB and USB on a good receiver, preferably with headphones and see if you can hear artifacts...
It is a puzzling one...
You could blank out the word "Cobra" on the front and change it to "Galaxy", at least then it would have an excuse to having a strange frequency problem that's hard to find... :p
This example is using a pair of 120VAC primary 24VAC secondary Pyramid/Astron/Tripplite transformers with the primaries in series for use on a 240V line. This is configured for "Buck" mode to reduce 240 to 216. For "Boost" mode, everything is the same except swapping both secondary windings end...
I don't have a scanner or printer right now and I got a lot going on for the next couple days but when I get a minute I can hand draw it and take a pic with my phone and post it up.
(Handy Andy might be able to CAD a diagram up for you....) ;)
Do you know how to phase transformer windings...
If the 8 volt source is zener regulated with a 1 watt zener and a series current limiting resistor (real common in CB's) they can start sagging when they get close to the limit. When you switch from AM/USB/LSB, there is a varying load on the 5 and 8 volt sources as the different circuits are...
I believe the LSB/USB/AM crystals are in sockets. Swap X3 and X4 crystal (LSB and USB) and see what happens. If the LSB crystal is bad/off frequency the off center frequency problem will switch to USB mode. If the off center condition stays on the LSB side, the crystal is fine and there is...
Yes, most of the line current flows through the secondary of the boost/buck transformer so in theory, this winding is what needs to be of sufficient gauge to handle the amps the line is drawing. So lets say the plate transformer is 120 in and 1200 out at 1 amp, it will be pulling roughly 10 amps...
This diagram is wired/phased to "buck" (the 12.6 volt secondary lowers the primary voltage by 12.6VAC) To wire it for 12.6V of "boost", you invert the polarity of the secondary. The transformer needs to be the same VA as the plate transformer it's feeding. The amount it boost/bucks is determined...
Yes, both the Tram and it's clone the MFJ-336T have a very cheesy way of connecting both the center conductor and shield. The center conductor is merely smashed into place and the shield is swedged in. (you'll see what I mean when you look). Once the connections are upgraded (I always replace...
Couldn't have been "shorted" or it would have blown breakers/fuses. Looks like my suggestion of massive reverse leakage was correct. I guess "all" of the suggestions weren't bad.
Since he's clamping the negative lead, there may be a ground return path through the coax shield carrying some of the supply current, lowering the clamp reading.
(Either that or the amp has %160 efficiency!)
