As of today, 10 October 2024, RCI has not replied. I contacted Superior CB and they replied and requested I forward the photos to them, and I have done so.
The metal enclosure was intentionally machine bent / stamped correctly with ninety-degree corners as the same in my RCI-69 Base Plus Plus. The screw holes were definitely NOT drilled and tapped perpendicular to the vertical chassis / enclosure, and this is probably why RCI has not responded to...
I have not received a response from RCI as to how they will resolve the defect on my two radios and all other radios. I am curious how RCI would correct the defect if I were to ship the radios to them.
That would explain why the screw hole appears as though it is not perpendicular to the plate. The hole was drilled and tapped into the plate prior to being installed, but the plate should have been installed at a slight inboard angle / tilt?
That would / should correct the defect, but I'm not touching it. I've stopped using the radio as soon as I inspected my radio. The person who installed the TDA had to see the gap.
Considering there is only a seven-digit spread between the last two numbers of the seral numbers, there must be a whole bunch of these radios floating around at distributors and retail radio shops with the same defect.
Look very close of the photos. The screw is not perpendicular to the plate and that is why TDA 2003 is "cocked" and the insulation (heat sink compound?) is not sandwiched between the TDA and the plate. I am assuming sooner or later the TDA would fail due to heat build-up.
A few years ago, I had (sort of) the same issue at a certain time of day and night. I asked my neighbor what he had going on in his cellar because I noticed lights were on. He had LED light bars for his pepper plants, and he had them before I moved in. I did not have any issues / noise the first...
Two new radios with Part # TDA 2003 were not installed correctly. I will post photos as soon as I find a way to do so. The TDA 2003 is not 100% attached to the mounting plate due to the drilled and tapped hole in the plate is not perpendicular. There is a significant gap and no compound between...
I've read and heard so many times that shipping seems to be the pass the buck / default answer why new radios have defects.
Not having channel 5 and 7 is not crucial but what happens if and when the cancer spreads?
Recently purchased a new and sealed in factory box, RCI-69 from a seller on Ebay.
After I received the radio, I shipped it to a reputable forum member to be converted and aligned only. No boosted power, no swing kit and no unlocked clarifier. I want the radio to be as stock as possible.
Radio...
Is your intent to have communication if and when there is a loss of 110/220 AC power?
A well maintained deep-cycle marine battery and an inexpensive / basic 40 channel CB radio would be one option.
I would not keep the battery in the living area of the house. In a ventilated cellar, sunporch...
