    Swr’s

Swr's??? How about SWR! The abbreviation isn't to be pluralized. Things to consider is at what point in your antenna system is the SWR measurement to be taken. With an analyzer, it should be checked with a short jumper at the antenna feedpoint. This will tell you the information of...

    108 with a hat

A caphat on a mobile antenna is used to decrease the inductance needed to match the antennas feed point that is inherent using a shortened antenna. The inductor is the loading coil and when using a shorter non 1/4 wave antenna for any given frequency, the more coil turns needed for a match...

General questions about my newest acquisition

Forum member @Slowmover will probably chime in on this thread. He's knowledgeable on Cascadias and Kenworths installs. On Volvos and probably some other trucks, it's worth the effort bypassing factory coax because the coax comes out of a multiplex box so the antennas are shared with CB...

General questions about my newest acquisition

I had many Volvo trucks throughout the years and learned them well. I ran both CB and HF radios with them. The swing arm style mirror brackets on later models are painted and are made of some kind of cheap metal and don't ground antennas. The newer Volvos have a plastic aerodynamic cover on...

    Another Ameritron problem.

I too have an older one with 2879's and use it with the ALS-500RC remote and it works fine. I tried it with the ARI-500 remote auto-band switch and it seems RF or something else occasionally will trip the amp into fault to where it was too aggravating to bother with it. Seems like putting a...

ALC OVERSHOOT IN RM ITALY AMPLIFIER

Interesting points here, what about using an RM Italy amp on a HF radio that doesn't produce an ALC spike, Would it be best to turn the relay control in the HF radios settings menu to "off" ??? Those amps have their own relays and don't need a key line to TX.

Any opinions on the MFJ MFJ-826B?

Here's a nice video on how to adjust your Daiwa meter

Any opinions on the MFJ MFJ-826B?

I used to have the MFJ-998 tuner which has a similar if not the same digital read out information. It also had a cross needle and the 2 readings agreed. Accurate? Good enough I suppose as I don't have a way to scientificly test it. The frequency display will jump around on SSB but this is to...

WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO “ClearSpeech” DSP Speaker

It's called an attenuator which basically is a dropping resistor value. Radio-scrap used to sell them but they were RCA Jacks. An L pad is typically used on the speaker driver itself usually on tweeters.

The new model Kenwood TS 590sg ?

You could also get one of these, just match up the correct audio, TX, and ground wires on the 4 pin side to the Kenwood side and move them if need be. Your Kenwoods manual shows the mic pin outs. Just be sure your looking at from the right direction that the manual shows so your wires aren't...

Call channel for FM, on the legal channels?

I should say my posts refers Amateur radios on FM bandwidths. The export radio's with FM maybe different.

Call channel for FM, on the legal channels?

Actually that’s correct because the frequency deviation of the modulated signal on FM can vary doubling the bandwidth or more of an AM channel spacing depending on the strength of the modulation. That's how FM works. This would mean using on channel 1 or 40 on FM mode would have part of your...

Cincinnati, OH CB or HAM Radio Supply?

May those short jumpers work well for you. The better way to go especially in a mobile install. On my way to the "Sticker Patch" to drop this Binder off at the dealer for repairs. Got a funny looking 579 Pete to drive in the meantime.

    Base Top 10 States

NM, Co, and northern Az do get some freezing rain, but not known for it. Usually it's just snow. Disagree with Texas and the southern states mentioned other than Fl. It's the high humidity states in the winter that get freezing rain and ice.

Cincinnati, OH CB or HAM Radio Supply?

You've done a lot of work just to start it all over again! I guess that's part of the fun/challenge of it all. It's also always a learning experience especially when changing to a different truck brand. I'm still having issues with my International LT that's been in and out of the shop and I've...

Cincinnati, OH CB or HAM Radio Supply?

I never had good luck with those double male connectors. If you tighten them down too much the barrels come off. If you don't tighten them enough, they come loose. Better off making a super short jumper.
