Yeticom, well aware of the limitations of said meter, Although 30 years old it is still better than most.Yep never buy a used oskerblock without the cal chart !.I do have the original calibration chart but added the WARC and CB bands myself. Used that meter as it was easier to photograph...
It's ok not annoyed at all. It's just the third or fourth time I've seen you ask the same question, and got pretty much the same answers.
Wondered if I was missing something. Test your meters for your own piece of mind.
Am is completely dead Down under ,cant give away an Am radio let alone sell one( people still try on ebay though) The only time we hear Am signals is when the band is open and we get the superbowl 4chs wide.America and Mexico only nothing else.
Europe and the rest of the world have moved on...
Interesting side note.
The swr meter built into my ICOM 746 PRO shows that as a 2.2 to1 swr My Yaseu shows 2.4 to 1 yet both show 50 ohm as 1 to 1. Thats Two to One against my Oskerblock is it faulty ? No Never trust the inbuilt meter. My SWR analyzer shows 3.01 to 1 at 148 ohm ,close...
And last using a 150 ohm dummy load you should see 3 to 1 swr. make sure the load can handle the wattage.
This will take all the guess work out for you.
Now reverse the connections
Check that the Set (full scale deflection )and readings are the same , but reversed.
You can do the same with the crossed needle watt meter, but use the watts reading not full scale deflection ( ie the reverse is calibrated lower watts that the forward)
Sonar you keep asking this . What do you want to hear?
Most Amateur radio SWR meters are 10% accurate at best . Many Cb meters are more like 20%
You decide which is more accurate !
Here's how to check
Sorry about the quality of the photo's couldn't get the light right.
Epoxy works , thin it down with a bit of alcohol and paint it on. Most cases it's the lamination's buzzing and you wont have to pot the winding.
Womens clear nail polish works as well ,dries hard but still a little flexible.( no honey I haven't seen your nail polish)
Have you operated during a solar minimum !
This time next year, and for quite a few years ,you wont be talking on CB except for a few passing truckers.
Good time to consider going "Ham" or packing the gear Away.
For me the choice between tube or transistor amp would be how I'm going to use...
Real common in old transformers. Make sure everthing is tight and can't vibrate in the case. Then if still present try enamel or super glue etc on the lamination's. Works wonders ! I have fixed several transformers like this over the years.
I don't seem to have a problem at any time. Like you said your a new ham.!
Please no offence meant Its a lot to do with how, when and where you operate.
20m is the big DX band.
40m is also good but you will need a good antenna for international work.
DX is a subjective term. Some regard the next state as DX
I have worked members here on 20m and 40m ( not to mention the numerous 10m contacts ,now the band is dead) from Australia.
