    Quansheng UV K5

I agree, outside of the ability to hack the firmware this thing has no redeeming value compared to other Chinese junk.

    Quansheng UV K5

I have the Radtel one and it is a Tri-band. Confirmed its outputting 3.5w on 220

I get that and yes for HF use I see it but the K5 is not worth the effort

    Quansheng UV K5

I honestly can't imagine how these would ever be useful. On HF yeah I almost see it but on V/U? No. Edit: Some further testing and found that the AM AGC Firmware fix does in fact resolve the AM receive. The remaining issue is 1.25m use, the radio will not bring up 220 repeaters. Anyone tried this screwdriver?

I have the High Sierra Sidekick, close to the small tarheel. I use a 72" whip and while its not as nice as the 17' option I can tune 80 much better.

It's money wasted in my opinion but since you pulled the trigger I would be interested in how the AM Aircraft receive is.

Made a Moxon for my HT

Not sure why you would even want to use it horizontal as 99% FM coms on two meters is vertical.

    TELL US ABOUT YOUR SETUP

I was thinking that this being posing in the CB section you are asking about current CB setups, well I don't have any CB setup anymore. My last setup on that band was in 1990 and that consisted of a ICOM 720a (yellow wire cut), Big Stick and PDL2 on an 80' tower. Nowadays, I use a Yaesu...

    Antenna for my Baofeng UV-5R

www.smileyantenna.com are the best you can get. They are hand made and tuned, the are 100% American made. They are however not dual band so you would need two. They do sell a dual band one but it's flimsy and not good for walking around with.

    Sirio Gainmaster 5/8 wave antenna.

It very common to ground mount a multi-band vertical antenna on the ham bands, but for 11 meter (VHF/UHF as well) ground wave comms higher is better
