Do NOT buy the knock-off fake Toshiba transistors. They really are junk.
I have examined the internals compared to the HG's and they are very poorly constructed. Very low gain also.
R16 and R23 , 1.8 ohm bias resistors, could also be bad, one or both, and not appear to be by looking at them.
I have seen that happen numerous times also.
At this point though, sounds like the keying transistor is bad.

I could be mistaken, but I disagree with that.
By turning the clarifier, all that is being done is changing the tuned-in frequency on the display, same as the channel display.
It is not counting the actual cycles per second.
It is NOT a frequency counter. It is only a readout just like the channel indicator.
Look at the video again on the shelf above the radio as he is modulating, is a true frequency counter which is reading true frequency as he talks.
Big difference between a frequency readout display and a true...
That doesn't compute in my mind.
Higher voltage divided by lower resistance results in more current.
Hence more power output.
"Ohm's Law"
I = V divided by R
Yeah, well, I also have one of those stored away in my shop.
It's not new, and it's not in the box.
All parts are there. Needs some cleaning and polishing, TLC, and a lot less than $2800.
Doesn't make any difference at all where the knob is located.
The internal stops on the potienometer determine the adjustment position.
The alignment needs to be performed with the clarifier pot in the centered position.
It most likely was not aligned properly after the clarifier was "unlocked" to sync the transmit and receive tuning together.
Need a very good frequency counter to do that.
Re-read his post.
You only need a ON-ON switch ....... DPDT .....
You don't want to have a middle position .....
Size doesn't matter, only the available room to install will determine the size .....
