Determine how many "circuits" are affected by the mod first, then choose a switch by the number of POLES you will need to use to restore those circuits back to "stock"

For instance - a CB site says to do XX to Galaxy XX - you install a switch - but how many of those legs of the PLL will you have to "switch" to do this?

Each leg of the PLL - needs one POLE.

Or, for instance you want an AM Regulator Mod - but want to keep the OEM style as much as possible.

Throwing in a Coil? You tap into the AM Side, but you don't want the coil affecting SSB.

  • Find the output wire of the AM Regulator for AM mode -
  • Find the Output wire of the SSB mode -

Now, count the number of circuits you change?

IN the above I see 2...

So you'll need a DPDT (Dual - POLE - Dual - Throw) to restore it back to OEM when you don't want to use it.

Why Dual Throw?

So you can apply a short using the POLE - so restore the original condition (you Throw it back to stock)

One direction of the switch allow you to turn on one circuit and bypass (short our or restore original condition) of another...

Don't use a "Center Off" DPDT - for if you do use it, you'll need to use something like a relay to restore the OEM and toggle to the other using the Switch - for it turns off the POLEs used to center - killing the circuit power flow.

Since there are so many types I just use pics to help - you decide what color or flavor or aspect of paddle to use...

OK with this so far?

thanks, andy i figure 0n-on-on is the correct way

Re-read his post.
You only need a ON-ON switch ....... DPDT .....
You don't want to have a middle position .....
Size doesn't matter, only the available room to install will determine the size .....

Wow first time i ever heard of an on/off switch for a swing mod. Why??? Usually someone wants to turn the amp on a higher powered radio off.

i have a few mods on my 2000 so to be ahead of things my way of thinking if i put the mods on a switch. when and if i have a problem with the radio turn switches to off position now radio is back to stock no desoldering or where this wire goes making my job easier. down the road
