here is the only page I have ever seen for a 148 radio to the mosfet. it states the newer 148GTL only. so you can look at it and see if you could make it work on yours.
http://www.cbtricks.com/miscellaneous/fet_papers/ekl/graphics/erf2030_148gtl_mod.pdf
the more I look at it the board reminds me of the variable power mod for the transformer modulated radios that is in a exploded view on cbtricks. not having one here to see close up at least has some versions of that mod but just a lot cleaner install.
this should sell good on ebay for do it...
after thinking about this radio with SSB signal acting up.
are you testing the meter on a dummy load so it does not have a signal coming in? if you are and the needle moves up you may have some harmonics going on in the SSB modes. let us know if you are testing it with a dummy load or on a...
it has been about 4 years since I worked on one. check VR10 and see what it does. that is all that comes to mind for the s meter for SSB.
never mind VR10 is the power meter.. only shows VR1 for the s meter on my manual.
try changing C48 by the audio IC. I have had that that one go bad and the RX would be low. I believe that is the right one. at least that number keeps popping up in my mind. in fact I would change all the caps right in the audio IC area to rule out one of them being weak.
if it was mine I would recap the radio since it is so old 1st and then try to repair it if a recap does not fix the problem. more than likely it has a bunch of caps leaking or shorted in the radio.
as Nomad stated you need to at least change out the caps at the audio chip and I would do all the...
what stinger board is in it. most have 2 wires to turn it off. as mentioned you can lower the radios dead key to turn it down also.if it is the ad-203 from RM it has 2 wires to turn it off.
here is the locations for the VR's to adjust dead key and mod
RT203 SSB ALC
RT205 AM AMC
RT206 AM POWER.
be very careful turning these little VR's. they break very easy. you break one and trying to find one and solder it back in place is very hard to do.
on simonthewizard page has a link to mod the radio to 20 watts. it is in a language I can not read but the mod looks fairly simple. would be good if you can read the language it is printed in. here is the link to the mod if this helps you any...
