They were but it made no difference, they always had about 1 to 2 s units of noise no matter if they were installed mobile or base. I remember there used to be a mod to fix this problem when they first came out because so many people were complaining about the receive.
If they dont get this...
I would say that this statement could be asked in regards to all aspects of radio no matter if it's cb or ham. Why do cbers/collectors (me included) pay $500.00 for a 2000? The same reason that hams/collectors pay hundreds if not thousands for old ass Collins,Hammarlund,Drake and Johnson radios...
The way i have been told some came with both speakers and some only came with one. If you find one that is unmodified and is in really nice shape then $400.00 is a good price although i have seen some in the original box in nearly new condition go for over $600.00. I paid $500.00 for one i have...
Before they do anything else they need to fix the noisy ass receive in these radios. I have had 4 of em and every friggin one of them sounded trashy as hell!
Why have i had 4 of em? Got one new when they first came out ( sold it in less than a week ) and the others used but less than 5 months...
Try turning the key down to 4 or 5 watts and see if that's enough audio for you. I have always had good results using this ( your peak power..21 watts divided 4= 5.25 watt dead key) which should put you around 100% modulation. You can lower the key more than that if you want but be sure that it...
I remember reading that these radios tend to get a little hot. The problem is that sometimes (but not every time) i have my FT on it smells like the radio is getting to hot. Kinda smells like wire burning in a way but i never see smoke, the fan only kicks on every so often and the radio is not...
Thought i would post this up about a new worm i case no one else has heard about it.
From Fox new's.
The Conficker Internet worm could strike at infected computers around the world on April 1, a security expert warned Monday.
Conficker is a sophisticated piece of malicious computer software...
Dont cut this radio up if it's nice! Your not going to have a power house out of this one and you will be lucky to get 20 watts from it. Sale it and get something else.
Leave it at 50. That's where they seem to sound the best. If you have your heart set on swing dont go any lower than 30 or it will sound like shit! Unless you turn you mike gain back but then whats the point?
I have one and 5 of the locals have them and well all run it at 50 watt key peaking...
Bang for the buck? An RCI 2995 and a Imax 2000. Run low loss coax and put the antenna up at least 36 feet, that's all you need!
You could also go with a 2 or 3 elelment beam for under $150.00 and use a TV rotor for maybe $50.00 to turn it.
Is there a frequency that one could listen to while the launch is taking place? I found some on the net but not really sure which one would be the best to listen to.
Will be using my Yaesu FT-100D
