Can I bend my antenna whip?

It's not worth the effort. It will bend more when the car is in motion anyway.

Ok now I am in deep doo doo

Use the MLB-2700 for the CB and the Bmaxscan-1000 for the scanner. That's the best thing to do. Regarding the trunk mount: You should get by with just the mount; making sure the set screws dig through the paint and grip the metal of the trunk lid. That works most of the time. Stubborn...

Ok now I am in deep doo doo

The MLB-4700 antenna is designed for 47-54 MHz (covers the Amateur 50-54 MHz, 6 meter band). The base coil is too small for the 27 MHz band, and the whip antenna is also to short (very short) to allow operation in the 27 MHz band. You need to get a MLB-2700 whip or a Larsen NMO-27 (B or C)...

A question about break-in period of a beam antenna

About as logical as a Break-in period for a screwdriver or hammer. Does the Break-in period go beyond the time limit for returning the product if it does not work properly? This falls under: Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot.

    MIC ADAPTER PROBLEM

You didn't say if the PTT doesn't work or the audio doesn't work: I would have to guess the PTT isn't working. I have a Turner +2 Microphone that has a 4-PIN connector, and it also has a switch to select either relay PTT or Electronic PTT. Possibly, that's a clue to your situation.

    Antenna Coax Recommendation please

Seriously, LMR-400 or 7/8" Heliax cable is low loss and expensive. But you could try RG-213/U. Easier to work with than either LMR-400 and definitely a lot easier than 7/8" Heliax. If you want maximum shielding then get RG-214/U (previously RG-9/U) which is double shielded RG-213/U cable. Both...

Co-phasing an Omni-Directional Antenna with a Directional antenna

It may be a mechanical nightmare to do it with one yagi. Where/how does the omni antenna mount? That is the reason DB Products use two yagi's I believe. The other reason may be the additional gain of a pair of phased yagi's to provide the required gain for the antenna pattern. Just something...

Co-phasing an Omni-Directional Antenna with a Directional antenna

Years ago DB Products built an antenna for VHF and UHF called a 'Keyhole' antenna. It used two vertically polarized 3 element yagis and one 3 dB omni antenna in the middle phased together to provide a somewhat omni pattern off the back of the two yagi's, and a extended bump-out from the front...

    ASTROPLANE best vertical antenna ever?

I looked up my old ASTRO Plane manual which states gain as 4.46 dBi. The ASTRO Plane is a shortened J-Pole antenna. No more; No less.

I took the Exam for Extra class this evening

OK! Well maybe we can meet-up on HF sometime. 40 Meters is my favorite band, but what bands are you able to operate on? Mike kc9q@arrl.net

I took the Exam for Extra class this evening

Congratulations! As long as you have your certificate that you passed the exam from your VE, you are able to use your call with /AE to ID yourself. This arrangement is published on the ARRL web site and is a result of the Government shutdown we're in. If you don't have access to it I could...

    Horizontal beam Vs Vertical beam

I notice this is written under Amateur Radio heading. 100% of the Ham's use Horizontal Polarization for 10 Meters for better DXing. However, to answer your question: You can use two seperate cable runs as 2RT307 discussed. Or, you can use both simultanusly and have Ciricular Polarization...

    20 meter dipole question

Hi North Tex, If you had the dipole ends seperated by 3 to 4 ft, with the dipoles oriented vertically (sort of like a fan dipole), you would have a wideband dipole design. On the other hand, if you had the dipoles seperated by 90 degrees in the horizontal plane (i.e., a horizontal 'X') you...

    Dr. Dipole question

Cross polarization (Vertical vs. horizontal) is roughly 20 dB down. Since an S-Unit is about 6 dB, your local ground wave signals will see about a 3 S-Unit reduction of vertical signals when you are using a horizontal antenna. Skip signals will not show such a large difference. Mike

    Beam antennas?

Hi Roadrage, The beam (or more correctly, the YAGI) antenna is a multi-element array. You start with a dipole antenna. Then you can add a reflector element (sort of like a mirror that reflects the dipole signal a bit) about .25 or so wavelengths away. The reflector is 5% longer than the...

    New Ham and Loving It

At least wrap the connector with Scotch 33 Electrical Tape. Wrap it from top to at least 1 inch below the PL259, wrapping from the bottom up so the overlap does not allow mositure in. Hope to hear you on 40, 20 or 17 Meters sometime. I use an IC7000 with a 80 Meter OCF antenna. Welcome to...

    Looking for antenna ideas

One of the better multiband wire antenna's is the 135 ft Off-Center-Fed Dipole (better described as an Off-Center-Fed Antenna). An offshoot of the Windom antenna, it covers 80 thru 6 Meters. Typically it covers 40, 20, 17, 12, lower parts of 10 and 6 Meters without a tuner. A wideband tuner...
