    SWR/Watt/Mod

Here's a good one. Bare Bones, but does what you want at a very lo price. CB/High-Frequency Ham Power SWR Meter - RadioShack.com Don't laugh, it works good. See the reviews on eHam.net. Mike

    Coax question

R.F. Davis has been around for a long, long time, and are the exclusive manufacturer of Bury-Flex cable. Bury-Flex is a direct burial cable the size of RG-8/u, RG-213/U. Important factors for cables are: 1) Shield density. The higher the % the better the cable. Double shielded, or double...

Adjusting antenna that need to be longer

With the radials straight out on your ground plane the impedance is around 37 ohms, and by placing a 45 degree down tilt the impedance will be closer to 50 ohms. Also your radials should be 5% longer than a 1/4 wave radiating (vertical) element. So multiply a calculated vertical value by 1.05...

    Hey Dummy; that's a Load . . .

For the same price of the MFJ-264, the Ameritron ADL-1500 will take 1.5 KW for 5 minutes. It's the equivalent of the old Cantenna. Mike

dual band antenna with 3/8 mounting.

You could go with a 1/4 wave 2 Meter whip with a 3/8-24 mount. A 1/4 wave at 2M is equal to 3/4 wave at UHF: Hence a dual band antenna. Only catch is the gain is 0 dB at 2M and 1.5 dB at UHF. Not high gain, but workable. Mike

    yes... no.... maybe? "X" antenna.

What you're asking about is called a Turnstyle Antenna. Google that and you'll have your answer. Mike

    yet another dipole question......

I thought the original question was about shortening the dipole by using helical winding the dipole elements? If so, one could just buy two hamsticks and make a dipole that way. Just a simple thought.

    Gamma match really necessary?

If you can swing it, get an MFJ-269. This unit covers 1.7 to 170 MHz continuous, plus 415 to 470 MHz in the UHF band. The impedance of a full half wave dipole or a half folded dipole is dependent on the element diameter, the spacing between the elements, plus the dielectric (k) of the material...

    New Cushcraft Squalo Antennas

Why would you want to run polarized horz. versus vert. on a mobile st up? I can see being able to select either or for a fixed base but in those bands vert. seems the best way to go? Am I am missing something? I am guessing the limiting factor for power is the Balun they are using the rest of...

    Gamma match really necessary?

You will likely need some form of matching for your yagi, and the gamma match is probably the easiest method for matching. A matching network is needed as the native impedance of a yagi is somewhere between 12 to 200 ohms, depending on the number of elements, and element spacing. You can...

    New Cushcraft Squalo Antennas

What a difference from the original Squalo products that used a gamma match. I beleive the old units were also 100 Watts, but there is no power spec published for either the ASQ-6, 6 Meter; or the ASQ-2, 2 Meter models. Prices sure have changed: from a 1975 catalog the ASQ-6: $15.95, and the...

    Base antenna rebuild

Here's a good source of aluminum for either making a new antenna or rebuilding an old one: Cycle-24.com - Aluminum Tubing and Saddle Clamps for Yagi Antennas.

What happens if a full wave loop comes up high in the middle?

MR Fix, Here's a variant: http://www.worldwidedx.com/amateur-radio-antennas/34120-interesting-variation-delta-loop-folded-dipole.html Loop antennas are very forgiving and work in the most oddball parameters. Put it up and see what happens. Mike

    VSWR problem

Still sounds like Common Mode Current to me. It is good that you have baluns on each dipole, however it appears that RF is getting into the remote switch somehow, maybe? Have you tried placing a Guanella choke balun (1:1 Isolation balun) after the RF switch to suppress any RF coming down the...

    Icom 706mkIIG or 7000

Congratulations on the 7000! The 7000 is a great rig, lots of features, the DSP is great, and built-in RTTY decoder too. BIG NOTE: The rig requires 13.8 volts and 23A or more for proper operation. I am using an Alinco DM330MVT 30A Switching Power Supply. Many ops comment about the rig running...

    Beam windload(sq. ft.) question

There is a difference if the antenna is mounted horizontally or vertically. Horizontal has a lesser sq. ft. area than vertical where all the elements are exposed in a vertical plane. Just a thought. Horizontal exposure for a 3-element beam: --------------- Vertical exposure for a 3-element...

    Yaesu 101E Receive Problem

Another place to look is the big multi-gang relay (RL-1) located on the top side of the radio. The contacts are known to get dirty after a while and need to be burnished clean with a relay file, or some paper bag with contact cleaner on it. That relay is the cause of 90% of the radio problems...

    End Fed Dipole Receive issues...

I've built antennas like this one: http://www.angelfire.com/electronic2/qrp/unun.html Just replace the T130-2 core with a more appropriate FT140-61 ferrite. You should be able to receive from 1 MHz to 108 MHz with this antenna. TX will be limited to 40 to 10 (maybe 6) Meters with a tuner...
