Whoever said good fences make good neighbors, didn't live next to family!

I love my dog more than I love some family members.

    No more free ham ticket?

Like Will Roger's said."be happy your only getting half the government you pay for". Thats the problem with price increases. Once is never enough for burocracy.

    No more free ham ticket?

I did something like that. When I was working I saved $5 bills. Whenever I got one I put it away. Didn't count it or looked at it for well over a year. Maybe 2 years. Well, visiting the local gun shop they had Socom 16 up on the rack. I went home and counted it up. $1200. I dont any longer have...

    No more free ham ticket?

I can see your point as far as it being a bargain for 10 years of enjoying our hobby. I use my rig everyday. But its the upfront cost, $50 for the fcc, $15 for the testing . How many non active hams are there ? I know $65 bucks won't send me to the poor house . TODAY. What about 10 years from...

    No more free ham ticket?

Apples and onions. I put my shack together on the perverble shoestring. I enjoy the hobby greatly and think that this increase will impact the number of new hams. This is just another fleecing. Whats next? Arrl membership down so they raise the subscription to $75 a year? Its bad enough that one...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

MFJ-4416C, BATTERY VOLTAGE BOOSTER,13.8VDC, 25A,INPUT 9-13.8V Thanks for all of the help. I think this will do the trick. I like that it has jumpers to limit the amount of battery discharge. 9, 10 or 11 volts and it will shut off. Please keep in mind this will only be used under emergency...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I'm a fan of overkill as well. I would rather to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I'm a little confused with the carrier signals. The owners manual says Tx (100watts) .. 23 amps. Geeze, what could draw 23 amps at 100 watts? Reason I'm asking is I found a quality converter that will give out 13.6 volts. Max of 15 amps. I think its output is 200 watts. I dont use am. I do use...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I'm still working this out. Getting closer to deciding what I can use. I have a pertinent question though. If my radio pulls 23 amps, at 100 watts, im assuming thats a full carrier, how many amps will it draw at 100 watts on ssb?

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I found some dc stepups on fleebay. They have some that go from 9.5- 12 input to 13.8 output. Personally, i have a self imposed moratorium on buying anything Chinese. But this may solve my challenge. Now to find a product made in Japan with Chinese parts.

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I'm thinking about and looking for a variable dc to dc converter. Something that i can manually adjust for 13.8 volts. Just really became aware of dc to dc converters. I completely forgot about stepups and step-down.

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

Moving the batteries would be near impossible for me. I could put a 12 volt marine battery next to my rig and see how that works. But just a question . Is there a way, a device that I can buy that may be able to up the voltage to required levels at the radio. Or am I challenging the laws of...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

yes, i mis spoke. I have an inverter to run the household items. Thanks CK and 2N. I didn't think the 10 gauge would have that much loss. I really only need around 40'. I could also go with a 40' run of 8 or 6 gauge. Keep it just for emergency power for my radio. But now for the Elephant in...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

Thanks six shooter. I like my 1200. Its my first ham rig. I'm going to do some searching for a booster. I did a quick search and found some elcheapos on Amazon . They only had a max of 3 amp output. The radio needs at least 23 amp to operate at full power. So says the manual. I kind of have a...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I was going to operate as 1E this field day. After I hooked up my ftdx 1200 to my battery bank I realized my radio shuts off when transmitting. Here are the particulars. I have 10 Trojan T 105 6 volt batteries. They are 225 amp hour @ 20 hrs. They are wired in series and parallel, making a 12...
