I just got a Midland trunk lip NMO antenna, looks identical to a Laird (similar to larsen) and same specs too. In a few minutes I plan to get up, take the NMO connector apart from the trunk lip base and drill a hole in the roof of my VW because trunk lip mounts are almost useless below 100mhz...
If all else fails,
Use a relay to completely kill the audio when the mic is keyed.
Trace the wires from the speaker and trace the wires from the ext speaker jack, where the traces on the PCB come together, cut the traces, and between them solder a relay in place.
I think it is pin 3...
Those are cool but for the same price I could buy any 10meter/export on the market, maybe a used kenwood/yaesu/icom all mode.
Occasionally foreign gear makes it over here, probably soldiers stationed in europe, people that move here, etc and when it does it typically ends up on ebay listed as...
they have them........in europe, you could get one shipped, with our weak us dollar, for about the same price for a good all mode general coverage HF rig.
Cheap speakers suck, had some when I was young and NPR classical 88.1 would always come through when the computer was off, sometimes enough to wake me up and night til they finally pissed me off so bad i woke up and ripped the cord out the back.
Simple solution, rent a spectrum analyzer or...
Dude, they shot a little baby, why the hell are you bringing up what prison gang members did 25 years ago while Ann Coulter was hard at work studying in law school.
Unbelievable these little Treyvons would do such a thing so the mom must have shot her own baby and her self.
weather or...
Oh, it is worth it. Several companies have made......whats the word I am looking for, evil PLL chips, one such for the TRC-458/Uniden PC-122 chassis, as well as a few others some of which NLA. The PLL picks the channels, you could just as easily burn programming for 80 or 120 channels into it...
same thing with my old FDC HT, compliments until I mentioned what it was, then it all the sudden became "overmodulated", on fm..lol, too loud, etc and was supposedly splattering all over (which I verified with my scanner to be b.s.). Fortunately the general consensus of the legality of such...
in my experience
Cobra 19 plus:
PCB soldered at 90 to display/control PCB, cant take it apart to fix !@## without desoldering a hundred connections
Maxon MCB-60:
lots of buttons and knobs, that break. A whole world of cold solder joints inside
95% of all CB's, after all these years...
For the money they cant be beat, however.
I find the stock battery less than adequate for all but recreational use, better get a spare or the 3800mah battery.
The antenna supplied was a strange hybrid, resonant on 2meters, and (almost) dead on GMRS freq but lacking on 440. This actually...
I found a marine radio at goodwill, they thought it was to play music in your boat, because is policy that any com gear goes straight to online auction. sometimes cool stuff slips through the cracks so its worth stopping by if its on the way.
Actually they used to use 11m FM I think fell under part 15 either on one of the "a" channels reserved for intercom OE something close . I actually saw a headset radio at flea market used 27mhz on FM and had FCC approval on box. Now I bet they use FRS mules or some other low power part15 crap...
