I've done Perth in Oz whilst static mobile on an 18w president jackson and hp4000 sirio mag mounted whip, last time i was out a couple of months ago rattled 5 stations in s.e england in 30 mins with a faulty s9 that was barely pushing 2w before rf feedback set in, again from static mobile and...
Was strange watching that video, firstly both the stations on 385 and 375 at start are both from my home city Glasgow, I know that accent anywhere.
The guy that made the video doesn't understand AM watts too well, often referred to the carrier as x amount of watts avg rms. you don't get watts...
You would need to be crazy to play about with base antennas in uk winter. The further north you go the worse it gets. It's as windy as hell here on the Clydeside. Sadly its the exact opposite of hot as hell. Fecking baltic here now. Only going to get worse as thats the bad weather just starting...
Only way to go is a linear psu for low receiver noise with at the very least twice the capability as current to be drawn. That way it only ever runs at 50 % duty cycle and will last indefinately just about.
Very lowest for a 100w radio as others have pointed out due to efficiency is about 20-25...
Don't be so hard on yourself mate. There's always room to learn and at the end of the day you can only do what you lnow with what you have.
I know it ain't ideal or lab spec but would get you that stable signal you need to give your tests more meaning to you. Which is what is important.
We all...
Its funny we are talking Big Mac. I only recently got in touch with Paul Iceman. He was the only one in Glasgow I ever knew with a Big Mac. Went across the city too see it years ago. I thought my 3 ele beam with mighty magnum 3 and my Sigma 4 were big. But the Big Mac was a monster. He put out...
Hi Eddie.
As you know I as well as others have criticised your s meter readings on ssb as well as your two pole approach.
I know you can't do anything about the two poles. But here's a suggestion might at least give you steady readings. Its a little tone generator that you can set for...
Yeah I know Eddie but a bundle turned up in the Netherlands. Shipping antenna's from Netherlands is cheap from here. Hopefully there is still a few left.
I want one to play with.
I already have a nib avanti av101, I got from my friend Andre in the Netherlands.
I also have about 10 x Clr2's...
Hi Bob. Glad you got an av101 finally sorted out. Wouldn't mind 2 or 3 myself but as you know banned from Tm1, lol. So can't get hold of Mark. I've pm'd Henry. Hopefully he'll be able to help me out, but if not I'll find them somewhere to go with mighty magnums and clr2's I have. Love my old...
Have you made sure coax plugs are ok? Midrange swr readings generally indicate a coax/plug/patchlead poor joint. Unless the coil is different to original. The CLR2 doesn't have massive whiplength adjustment, so coil needs to be accurately made and tapped.
I was sure they had the 1 piece whip. Very rigid from what i recall. I can never recall a two piece one. Even the av241 was one piece too. But deffo intetested in astroplanes.
Would probably be interested in 3 or 4 myself. Not too sure on marktplaats though. Those av261, the pic looks like the ones we saw on that italian site a couple of years ago. The av101 deffo look legit. :)
Glad to hear you finally got an av 101 sorted Bob. Those av261 look a bit suspect. Was pretty sure they had a 1 piece whip and i know they're now made in italy. So long ago can't be certain.
The 101's the one you want anyway and it looks spot on. Might go for a couple myself to add to stocks...
I'm not out to side with or against you Eddie. I gave "my" opinion right or wrong.
Maybe you could view the idea Donald suggested earlier in the thread that RF see's the basket not as radials but as a solid cone due to the gaps between the radials being a very small fraction of a wavelength...
The old 1/4 wave gp takes a bit of beating on short range skip. I also live in the clyde valley and the Starduster works well.
But there is days when ducting happens that will take you to places normally out of range. They are generally far shorter distances than sporadic e but not as close as...
