    Pace Sidetalk 1000b 40 ch

Is it the PLL version or the 40 channel crystal version? Can't remember if there are any major differences, other than the PLL circuit, but R363 controls the AM "S" meter, R364 controls the SSB "S" meter. R520 adjusts the squelch. That's on my 40 channel crystal version of the 1000B. ~Cheers~

    X-Force 600HD Smoked

Is it me, or are the mica caps on the input transformers too high in value? I was thinking they need to be 330pf, not 500pf. The 468 trimmer is suitable for its application, unless it got damaged and it's open. Usually, it's best to use the trimmer cap to dial in the input match, then measure...

    Cobra 148gtl r131 removal?

Removing R131 disables TR26, which is the AM mod limiter transistor. Changing the value of R131 will allow the AMC to function, but across a wider range. ~Cheers~

    Cobra 148 gtl ST

Change out R131 to a 15k ohm. On the original 148's, R131 was originally a 10k ohm, increasing the value would bring up your modulation on AM. Am I correct in assuming you have low AM modulation? ~Cheers~

    HR2510 Dead Short Ideas??????????????????????????

Since the final is bolted directly to the chassis, the caps are needed for impedance matching. When you isolate the final from the chassis, you no longer need to use the caps to match the impedance, since the impedance mismatch is removed by isolating the final off the chassis. And you're...

    HR2510 Dead Short Ideas??????????????????????????

It's a poor design. What is going on is that the final is directly grounded to the chassis and is not isolated by a ceramic or mica insulator. Because the mounting tab on the MRF477 is tied to the Emitter leg internally, bolting the transistor to the chassis effectively ties the PCB ground and...

Texas Star Sweet Sixteen (Older Model)

Sounds like it was a good thing I didn't buy any of the ASI 2879's. I'll stick with HG's or Toshibas. ~Cheers~

    Old uniden Grant PC-196aa board

Robalo, When you're doing your peak and tune, what are you adjusting? Just L30 and L32? Or are you adjusting other things? ~Cheers~

    Old uniden Grant PC-196aa board

Technically, bias current should be set based on the beta (gain) of the transistor, and not by a set number. Now obviously, in a mass production setting, this was impossible to do... but as a rule, that's the proper method. But if replacing the driver, final, or both, that's the way it should be...

    Old uniden Grant PC-196aa board

Dmans, Oops. I got confused on TR401, that's the pass regulator transistor for the power supply, yes? If so, leave that one where it's at, it's not hurting anything there. If you are concerned with cooling, you can replace it with a TIP35C and it will run a little cooler, just make sure to use...

    Old uniden Grant PC-196aa board

Dmans, Remote mounting TR401 to another spot is a good idea. I usually mount it on the heatsink fin that the audio IC is mounted to. That will work fine. ~Cheers~

    Old uniden Grant PC-196aa board

Yeah, the radio isn't going to swing more because of more bias current, only thing increasing bias current does it change the class in which the final operates, up to a certain amount of current. Each final will bias differently, and will have their own "soft cap" on bias current, depending on...

What electronics have YOU fixed lately?

Just recently.... recapped and aligned an old Midland 13-893 AM/SSB 23 channel mobile. It was an Ebay special I had bought about 10 years ago, it had a switch on the side for extra channels. That radio has probably the smoothest audio of any radio I've ever owned. I'll never get rid of it...

Texas Star Sweet Sixteen (Older Model)

There's a guy on Ebay that's selling them as singles. I thought about buying a set of 8 to keep around in case I was able to snag a Sweet 16 carcass. ~Cheers~

Texas Star Sweet Sixteen (Older Model)

TinCan, That's crazy how a carcass can go for near 400 bucks... but it IS Evilbay.... That other amp just looks... cobbled, ain't no way he's getting 3k out of it as he claims. However, it could go reasonable since he has zero feedback, so I may watch it. ~Cheers~
