The closest board to that Stalker 2 I think would be the Midland 79-893. The Stalker 2 that I had was about spot on with the Midland radio model I mentioned above. Look up info for a Midland 79-893.

Do away with ALL export junk. So much poor designing in exports.... from noisy RX, to overheated output/PA sections, to bad IF mixing stages, there just isn't anything good about them. Get rid of them entirely.
For CB's, go back to leaded solder so they are more reliable in a mobile, less...
Honestly, I would go back to the Workman Superstar DM 507-4 mic, and just put a good mic cord on it. Those mics truly sound superb with the old President Grant DX radios. That's what I use on mine and people love the audio. I did replace the cord on it, however.
You'll really enjoy that Grant...
Get the Grant DX and put that on the base. That's a great radio. Move your existing AT-6666 to the vehicle, and call it good. Save some money in the process! (y)

For the vehicle, go with the AT-6666. The PCB construction of the AT-6666 is more durable for in-vehicle use VS. the Stryker 955. The RCI-2950 has noisy RX and the Galaxy will drift. Those are my observations based on the bench.
My nod goes to the AT-6666 in this case.

The transformer is there to act as a large filter choke to help reduce alternator/RF noise across the 12V input from the battery, since the radio is a mobile. All 138XLR's have that choke. If the other 138 doesn't have that choke, it has likely been removed by someone. People have been known to...
The voltage on the collector of Q60 seems a little low.... with the RF power all the way up, it should be in the 5-7V range in AM. And yes, you should be seeing some voltage at the base of Q60. It should be very little, but you should see some voltage. It is possible that Q62 (2SC2166) has gone...
I was extra class years ago, then let my license lapse. The code test was a little bit tough for me, but I made it through. It took me about a month of studying. I also recommend doing the tech + general test at the same time.

So, final update on the asymmetrical modulation mod:
For the double conversion MB8719 chassis (Cobra 2000, 148, President Madison, President/Uniden Grant):
Change R228 to a 1.5k ohm.
Solder a 1uF, non-polarized capacitor from pin 9 of the audio IC to the junction of R228/D63/R194.
Replace the...
I would be interested in making a bias circuit that is regulated with thermal tracking. My bias design is rather crude, but it gets the job done... if anyone has a schematic of a bias circuit that is regulated, let me know. Thanks!
~Cheers~
This is the thread. I think on page 3 or 4, I get into the mod and the dynamics, although I no longer have the scope pictures up.

(Edit): It's not pinned. Sorry about the confusion!
Just do my asymmetric modulation mod that's buried in the modifications page. It'll work fine. Do not volt the final, it's not necessary with my mod. Make sure all modulation limiters are intact, and upgrade the AM pass regulator to a TIP41C, follow the instructions, and it'll sound great...
Get a GS-35B. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure you do a proper "burn-in" before you apply any kind of B+, and slowly ramp up B+ as well.
~Cheers~
The reason it eats tubes is because it doesn't have any kind of negative bias voltage on the grids. The amp will be fine for AM where the deadkey from the radio "provides" the bias, but in SSB modes, where there is no carrier present, the tubes just run wild and will eventually redplate. I had...
I had the same issue with a Philly 148GTL radio a while back, turned out to be an electrolytic capacitor that had dried up and failed short. There is an outside chance that the audio IC (TA7222) and the voltage regulator IC (MB3756) have failed short, but that's a pretty rare occurance if D55...
I also have a way of doing a key line that works regardless of radio, and only requires a relay and a couple pieces of wire, but it has to be a DPDT relay. Let me know if you want info if your current setup doesn't work out. :D
~Cheers~
