I have the McKinley and use a RF Limited Extreme 2018 with mine...
First thing you need to do is open up the radio and turn up the modulation pot...Once you have it peaked, then set the Mic gain to peak (full on the bar graph) and then back it off 3-bars...Then you can set your Mic gain on the...
I've got a couple I restored, and replaced the elements with that one I posted the link to on ebay...When I first got them, they looked like junk, the chrome was all pitted and the base was scratched up, and they had a tinny sound... I need to re-do the mic plug wiring again on the John Deere...
D 104's should sound good even on the newer rigs...I have one hooked up to a RCI 2980wx that sounds great!

If your getting rf burn from the mic...just run a ground strap off one of the radios mounting bracket screws to a good grounding point (like the firewall)...problem solved...
your welcome.
pointed up would put them right next to the antenna itself....think you're going to have SWR issues... Be like these guys who mount their antenna right behind the cab of their pick-ups on the bed rail, then wonder why they can't get the antenna to tune.
Mobile? ...go for it...
Base? I don't see the need for something that big... It's not like your going to be doing shoot-outs with a base...
"IMO" something in the 500-1000w range is all you need for a base, then go wild on the antenna set-up if you want...
