I have a Yaesu ATAS 120 screwdriver in my attic, mounted it to a quad j-box with various size lengths of 12" rolled roof flashing connected to the base. The antenna is mounted center of the attic so it clears the peak when extended to 40m (slight angle needed for my attic). The flashing runs...
I have one and its actually done well compared to the other configurations I've tried. I'm fairly limited on what I can get away with here, no monster trees anywhere in this newer neighborhood so I have to make do. A friend bought one and has great success so I grabbed one and tossed it...
Update on the attic ATAS 120, this last weekend was a pretty good test and I was pleasantly surprised. Saturday afternoon and evening netted contacts in all four corners of the US and DX as far down as Argentina. These were mainly on 20m and some on 40. The antenna tunes on all bands after a...
Update, added the rest of the flashing metal today. Made good contacts 10, 15, 17, 20, and 40 even with the lousy band conditions. Of course it helps having everyone working hard on field day eager to make contacts.
"Big Chief talk- little woman listen" ....I've always subscribed to the theory that there are only two types of men, those that are whipped and those that are liars. :-) I'm just sayin... From antenna to the fact of life, one can learn everything in this forum.
Thanks for the advice. Didn't mean to say the truck is better than the house, thats an unknown at the moment. They both have the same antenna and radio. I do have the radio running on a battery, with backup from a power supply. The Powergate 40 is connected up to the radio. Would love to...
Climbed up and pulled the dipole out, didn't run any more sheetmetal yet but did swap out the coax w/UHF connector and put in a SO239 bulkhead and ran RG8U giving me a little more slack. It also allowed me to tighten down better in the j-box and put a T in for the shunt coil if its needed. It...
Thanks for support and questions. I'm using the Diamond UHF Base Conector and 13' RG316 coax which goes up through the ceiling almost over the top of me. The connector is fed out of top knockout in a 4" quad electrical j-box. Each of the sheets of flashing have 3/4" holes at the end and are...
I posted a private question to Moleculo and he suggested I get it into forum. I've read the posts already about throwing the ATAS 120 out the window and have filed them away as possible "I told you so's from others". Before I do the copy and paste, here's the update. The ATAS 120 has been...
I own eight Yaesu's HT's and Mobiles, sent a couple in for upgrades is all. Never had one fail, but bought an 817 off eBay that had no output. Service and communication to their SoCal center was always top notch.
Moleculo thanks for saving my sanity! I had sent my Vx-8 down for the upgrade and hadn't used the APRS since it came back. Had to use a work vehicle today so I tossed my 8 in and couldn't anything to show up. Stopped a couple times to make sure I had all the setting and all were as before...
I'm getting mine ready to ship, just the thought of it not having all the features possible tips me over the edge to pony up 60 bucks. May not be using APRS to the fullest yet but might decide I want to a month from now. :-)
I just got the email to ship my VX-8 in for the 60 buck upgrade to VX-8DR status. Has anybody had this done yet? If so, was it worth it?
Thanks

I sure like my 857/120 combo in my PU, and just added a new 857 to replace the 817 that was here in the house. So'd I'd be interested in moving a YT-100 in to replace the Z-100. So let out a yell when it goes on the block.
Enjoy the 7000, I've no experience but have heard great things from...
You mean my lamp cord loop isn't one of the antenna choices? :-) No iv after recovery, only some oxy. Doc said therapy starts in three weeks. I have heard others start right away, others were delayed. Better get back to subject matter...I agree a better antenna would do wonders. I had a...
