From the eHam review :
Description: Collapsable, aluminum tubing dipole (2 telescoping sections) either side of the center insulator. A 2 1/2 foot mounting arm also attached to the center insulator. This 1970 vintage antenna would cover from below CB (possibly 12m)thru 6...
I like this idea. Beats trying to find members on 4 or 5 different bands. Plus I don't want to have to keep re-tuning my amp! lol
Another thought that's probably been brought up many times before - what about a WWDX 20 or 40 meter Net rather than contests? I've participated in every...
The radio is slightly warm to the touch in receive mode. I did a short test by transmitting for 2 minutes. The radio doesn't seem to get any warmer. The fan comes on when you transmit and about a minute into it the fan switches from low to high and it's a bit louder but still pretty quiet...
Four years in the military and you should have a nice chunk of change to go to college with. When I was in you could take college classes and the Navy paid for it. Back then the Montgomery GI bill topped out at $10K and that's what I finished my degree with. For that $10k I had to pay in...
543_Dallas pretty much nailed it. Start treating finding a job like that is your job! Put the same amount of time you currently spend playing with radios into finding a paying job. The hobby will still be there once you're employed.
I endorse brasso. Works great on gold and I add a capful to my vibratory tumbler when polishing brass. I chose to hoard ammo over gold bars :) You can't kill a zombie with a gold bar.
IMHO..I guess it depends on what you want use it for. I'd do it for fun to power something I wouldn't mind losing if my power supply project went belly up but not on a $1500 hf radio.
The comment by the person who told you that really doesn't make much sense to me unless you put it in context with a specific antenna situation. Could be that was the best match for THAT particular situation. Auto tuners are not a "cure all" for crappy antenna systems. If your antenna is...
Quick first impressions. It’s a nice little radio and good quality. Weighs exactly 1 lb. and is tiny. All I've done so far it programmed in two local repeaters, 144 and 440 MHz. The receive audio is nice for such a small rig and it has plenty of audio volume for mobile operation.
I did...
The wifey just got back from the mailbox and plopped this down on my desk. 8 day shipping from China isn't bad! I'm working a half day from home today so, I'll be opening my new toy a little later on this afternoon :)
Welcome aboard! This place is an amazing mix of radio enthusiasts of all ilk's from professional engineers to us hobbyists, hams and CB'ers. I don't know of another forum where a mix like this exists in peace. Lots of good info here so have fun.
I used the ATAS-120A for several years with the 857D and Icom 706MKIIG and though it worked well. Could have been during a upswing in the solar cycle though in th early 2000's.
