LMR 400 used to say made in USA. The new stuff I ordered from DX Engineering doesn't. Seems like they've started importing their cable. It probably comes out of the same factory as the knock off brands.
While looking at specs I also noticed the rg213 will handle twice the voltage that LMR400...
I have some but prefer linear. I have a pair of dell server supplies for testing big mobile amps. They work well and are clean, but rarely used.
I used a samlex power supply with my HF rig but the fan comes on regularly using AM. I went back to the Astron 50.
Yes. If you do a single tube the al80b transformer has plate and filament windings.
If you do a 2 holer the plate transformer from the al82/al1200/al1500 will work well. You'll need a separate filament transformer though.
The plate transformer is too light duty for AM. A couple of guys around here have smoked them. The ones that make them last run a low carrier and big swing.
The fan that blows at the tubes leaves a lot to be desired. The better way is to have chimneys around the tubes and a bower to pressurize...
The sb220 kind of sucks if you use AM. I vote for building it so you can have a better plate transformer and forced air cooling. If you decide to buy I would look at the drake l4b. There don't seem to be as many around but they pop up now and then.
You're not taking efficiency into account. Nothing is 100% efficient. If this were an amplifier you could figure it at 40% efficiency and give yourself some breathing room but a transceiver is more complicated.
If the manufacturer says 40 amps I would consider 50 amps a minimum. Be sure to...
It doesn't. I know this because I replaced the filament transformer in my al1200 when I put the 8877 in it. The al1500, al1200 and al82 use the same plate transformer.
Some will disagree, but I upgraded the filter caps and put the plate transformer on the 220 tap. I would at least test the caps and bleeders if the amp is older. You can also replace the rectifier diodes and ditch the ceramic bypass caps. Modern diodes off the same tape don't need them.
With...
For most hams that use ssb the blower is fine. For high duty cycle modes and high power the blower is barely adequate. It's rated at 26.5 cfm

Below are the specs from the 8877 data sheet. If you're...
Amplifiers absolutely do cause splatter. Splatter is known as IMD. This is caused my non linearity in the amplifier. Filters will not help. The amplifier must be properly built biased and not driven into gain compression. The builder and the operator have to do their part. You can filter the...
The 5 (which would normally be 500) will be 2500 with the multiplier on x5 with a 2500 watt slug.
Read the meter as you normally would without the multiplier. Then multiply the reading by 5. You still have to use the scale that's appropriate for the slug you're using.
