I would think about this one a little more. You could reduce the amps output by reducing the drive you give it, and as a bonus the amp will last longer and probably run cleaner.
Sometimes I have one of those days where I say to myself "I don't feel that enough people flipped me the bird today", then I watch one of his videos and all is well.;)
He does have some interesting insights on workshop related stuff.
I would recommend waiting to install the amp until after you have the Wilson 5000.
Also consider having a tech turn down the power on that radio so that it drives the amp reasonably with the variable on high, that way you don't have to worry about damaging the amp because of a brain fart. I...
This reminds me of a story an old timer tech in a radio shop told me. He said when single speaker radios were most common and stereo was still something new the shop he worked in used to get a lot of stereos in with complaints that the left channel didn't work, when he asked the customers how...
I see you finally managed to twist what I said into something you could argue against, I know you feel like you accomplished something so I'll let you have it. Have a nice day.
Barefoot or an amp with the switch turned off works just the same, just because you have an amp doesn't mean you need to run it all the time. I like to have a little juice available but to be honest it's a rare occasion I use it.
It's nice to have a little flexibility in your station so you can...
You know I really don't like to argue, I know there are a lot of different people with different reasons for being interested in radio. I'm not defending this radio so much as trying to make a point regarding posts like the previous one by Onelasttime. In this hobby there seems to be a tendency...
"Bump" basically means that the primary reason for making the post was to bump this thread back up too where it will be seen, adding a new post brings the thread back up to the top of the list .
PS: I'm surprised there isn't more interest in this radio.
Most trucking companies over here have policies forbidding the use of amps, the fact that you get a decent amount of power without an amp is one of this things major selling points.
This thing in a nutshell:
1: Relatively high power with no amp needed.
2: Fits in a Cobra 29 sized cubby hole.
For ham use this thing would definitely be useless, even most truckers wouldn't need it. I know I have no plans to buy one. But there is a niche market that this would be ideal for.
Different strokes and all that.;)
That's far from the case in my experience, and I still drive a truck
The case on this thing is the same size as a Cobra 29, that's one of the problems it would solve.
If you own the truck you can install whatever you want in it, there are no restrictions to work around therefore this thing...
Not a tech but as a trucker I can agree with this, something like an old Mack will definitely find the weak points in the design of anything installed in it.
Fixed value parts are also harder for people who have no business working on their own equipment to screw up.
There may be a lot of radios that are better overall but you have to look at this things intended purpose, if you drive a company truck and need something that will talk well on 19 while not bringing on many of the issues associated with installing something in a company truck this thing solves...
High power without an external amp and the size of a Cobra 29, looks like it's intended for use in company trucks were there are restrictions in place on what the drivers can install.
