get a metal tool box. then mount either a 10k or 102 in the center of tool box. for a low profile look try a 5 foot or longer fiberglass antenna in exact same spot
imho a trunk mount gets a better ground than a mag mount. with that i dont know if sirio makes a trunk mount for the 5000 or not. but i know wilson does
i too own a president lincoln .i also have a uniden washington and far away stations are better heard on my washington. channel bleedover seem about the same
my 3900 is a ok radio for the money. its best quaility is the reciever. it doesnt have that harsh noise like so many newer radios out.now for the bad. its awful on ssb with drift
and add dual clarifer just makes it worse.. i like my 959 better. jmho
only astatic mike i like is the 575 withe the tone control. there was a base mic with a tone control also i liked it too.other than that all tuners for me
yes robb you are correct! i didnt put top loads cause when i put a 5 foot wilson silverload against a 5 foot wilson 1000 baselod if there was any differences i couldnt tell. though the silverloads were inexpensive.NB im mostly interested in long local talking without using a 102 whip or high...
that is the question. i know ive read that centerload mobile antennas are slightly better than baseloaded ones
question is by how much? has anyone ever tried a comparison?ive heard many different opinions on this
ive thought about doing one myself
in simpler terms
1 radio=50 ohms by design
2coax = 50 ohms by design [coax lenth shouldnt change this]
antenna=50 ohms [or about] once tuned
imho coily up the coax isnt going to lower swr at all. may even make it worse
picked this up over the weekend, rx is ok but tx is way over modualted on ssb. i gotta use a stock mic or noise canselling mic only. then back mic gain all way down till around 11 oclock.im thinking modulation limiters or did i overlook something?
