My father grew up in Colombia, and I learned to speak Spanish from him, along with Hispanic friends I had growing up. I am positive that my Spanish, when it was at its best, which it no longer is, was much worse than Peter's English.
The other day, I posted a picture of a setup I use to keep from having to replace fuses when something stupid happens, such as slipping with a probe tip. I decided I would show both methods I use for this kind of thing in hopes that it will be helpful to people, and make it its own post, just...
Well, on ssb, it is rare that more than two people are speaking together. Since people don't know what the other person's voice sounds like, they tend to tune their clarifier to where they think it sounds most natural. Imagine two people having a clarifier war, each trying to get the sound how...
I do tend to try and remove modifications on these older radios. This Galaxy, for instance, had an unlocked clarifier, and the modulation limiting was defeated. On this radio, luckily, both are fairly easy to undo. When I find radios that have had their channels expanded, I tend to keep that...
Having been on the internet since the 80s, I have gotten pretty used to people's difficulties with speaking English, and I don't tend to equate those difficulties with other aspects of their knowledge. I do occasionally run across an amusing mispronunciation that makes me chuckle though...
If you look at the picture I shared in post number 16 in this thread, it certainly looks like a regular diode simply epoxied to the surface, not a surface mount diode.
Why do they go through the trouble of putting the diode on that copper board right on the transistor if all you have to do is put it on the pcb by the legs, or am I misunderstanding you?
Am I correct in believing that since the resistance goes down as the heat goes up that it reduces power to...
Okay, I'm going to post my diagnostic procedure, and see if anyone has a problem with my thinking.
I think I may have figured out the problem, although I have yet to finally fix it. J2, which is up against Q46, appears to have been touching the anode of D90. If I am following things...
I sell my stuff on Ebay as used, not parts only. I am also not afraid to take returns. I simply take pictures of things I think people might screw me around with ahead of time, even beyond what is in the listing, and then if someone tries to screw with me, I can go to Ebay and they will...
Almost everyone uses gmail, hotmail, etc. now days. Gone are the days where your ISP gives you an email address. I have email addresses that are not through those providers, but that is only because I have a couple businesses that I run that have their own domains.
As for using a proxy/VPN...
I was questioning "my own brand of diodes" too. As for the green poly caps, I have seen those go bad in one radio, and two televisions. The coating deteriorates, and I'm assuming soaks up water. Mike, from Mike's Radio repair has mentioned them too. I don't worry about them if they aren't...
I was thinking that the 1 watt thing had something to do with it also, as the original resistors are 1/2 watt.
I have probably 50 values of 1 watt resistors, and 180 ohm is not one of them. Some day I may acquire all the values, but for now, I would have to special order those resistors...
I'll have to take some pictures of them tomorrow when I get to the shop, but they have black around the edges, and white on much of the face, if I remember correctly.
As far as the schemes they used, all the books I've looked at had a similar look, other than the main color that changed with...
I also like how he describes the covers. Books 1, 2, and 3 are black and white covers, and they changed the style to being fairly consistent until the last couple books, where they went to an off white color. He seems to think that because they have different covers that they were not part of...
It would make it feel sweeter if I thought he was anywhere near the ballpark when it comes to reasonable value. I would believe a set could go for as much as $800, but not much more.
