Grant XL very low AM tx

That may be your experience. I can't say otherwise. All I know is that I have not had any real trouble with plastic or nylon screws in my work. Occasionally they will break, but I've had maybe 5 of them break on me over the last 15 years, and I deal with them fairly regularly, albeit on...

All plastics will get brittle over time, but I got the impression that he was touting the black plastic screws as being better than regular plastic screws. I have no reason to believe that black plastic lasts longer than other plastic screws if they are not exposed regularly to UV.

You just reminded me of one thing I noticed about that Snake Radio Customs guy. On the one video I watched, he mentioned replacing all the plastic screws with black plastic screws. It just hit me why he might do that, but it really isn't necessary inside a radio. Black plastic screws are...

What is a good price for a full set of Sam's Photofact CB manuals?

I've seen the set sell for more than that on eBay. I saw one listed for $800, but I never saw if it sold, but I have seen two sets that sold. One sold for $500, and another sold for $400. All of those were buy it now prices though. I can't find any sold listing now though, so it's hard to...

I would rather them tell me it doesn't work, and give the symptoms. When they pull that crap, they are doing it to get the hopes up of people that want whatever it is, and hope they will get it and it works, just so they can get the price up.

Yeah, ebay is full of liars though. If you see anything that says "Powers on but don't have the equipment to test", or something like that, you can pretty much guarantee it doesn't work, and the seller knows it.

What is a good price for a full set of Sam's Photofact CB manuals?

I don't think this guy knows too much about much of anything when it comes to value. The fact that he's willing to sell that CB42 for $25 is proof enough of that. The guy doesn't do anything on the internet. I contacted his daughter, who had listed them for him, and she gave him my phone...

    Glad you got it straight.

They have similar specs. The 1135 has a maximum collector current of 4A, where the 525 is a max of 5A. I doubt you would reach even 4A. If I had to guess, I would say you should be fine.

I know I want a few books that never come up for sale on ebay, or if they do, they are snatched up before I get to see them. It would be nice to be able to grab a book for these old radios instead of having to buy them as I need them.

    Soldering trouble

I have an iron like that, although not as big. I have never used it, but I got it because of running into situations in the past where I couldn't get enough heat to solder/desolder on large pieces of sheet metal.

Scary Snake Radio "Setting Up" President Lincoln II V3

In boards with thick dust, I've found that it is rare that compressed air alone gets all the dust off, and I end up using a brush and a vacuum in the end anyway, and I save no time by blowing it off first.

    FM CB in US?

Half a mile with line of sight? There is some other obstruction you aren't accounting for.

What is a good price for a full set of Sam's Photofact CB manuals?

Well, considering that I've been resurrecting old radios, I imagine that I will have use for more than 1/4 of them eventually.

The full part number would be 2sd1135. If replacing the insulator doesn't fix it, I would bet it shorted and fried.

Well, that part appears to be the AM power amplifier, so it would be a good candidate for causing the problem you are having.

Grant XL very low AM tx

Wait, I didn't look. Your driver and final are on the left toward the bottom. It is also possible that is an audio amplifier, but that wouldn't be your problem either. Get the part number off of it, and let us know. We can be sure what it is by that. Whatever it is, try and get the...

Grant XL very low AM tx

Not having looked inside a Grant XL before, that part appears to be a voltage regulator or a final, and the insulator has come lose. It is a bad thing for that part to ground to the chassis, which is why that insulator is there, and it uses a plastic screw. The problem doesn't sound like a...

What is a good price for a full set of Sam's Photofact CB manuals?

I just found a full set of Sam's Photofact CB manuals for $250. I'm pretty sure that between that and the Sencore CB42 service monitor that he's willing to sell me for $25, that it's worth driving 8 hours round trip to get them, since the guy doesn't want to ship them, or accept anything but...

    Bird Meters and scopes

These quality pissing contests get nowhere, and I would swear that people could be right next to the radio when certain things happen, and they wouldn't believe it, just so they don't have to admit that someone else was right.
