    Some 50Volt Technology

Hope you held a sack under your monito while watching, be a shame to waste all that poo-poo... - 'Doc Oh, what 'pills' were used?

    SSTV

Got a surprise last night. Almost ready for bed (3 Am) and listening on 14.230. Saw a F6HHO calling CQ and answered him. Really surprised when he answered! Exchanged 3 or 4 pictures, not the best, but not bad. Why surprised? 20 meter dipole maybe 15 feet high, and 75 watts, from Oklahoma...

    Stranger taking pictures

FWIW I have free time so like to sit out on the porch when the weather is decent. Couple of weeks ago this vehicle would drive slowly up the street and stop in front of one of the neighbor's houses. After a couple of times doing that the driver got out and took pictures of a house a bit in...

    W1AW/1 working Out-Of-Band operators

Normally, for a typical SSB signal, 3 Khz is fine. But there are several ways for that 'normal' SSB signal to get much wider than 3 Khz. - 'Doc

    Thoughts on this antenna.

What was the name of that thing? You know, the bad part was the thing did 'work', and in a case or two, it didn't do all that badly. Knew of one instance where it was connected to the back-stay of a sail boat. It did better than what he was using before, but certainly not 'well'. Everybody...

You're too late, that resistor thingy has already been done in the early 80's. - 'Doc

    Multi-band & Wilson 1000

Watch that change in the 'X', that's the biggy, not the SWR. That 'X' should be '0' if possible, and as close to '0' as you can get it. No matter what the SWR meter reads, if that 'X' is more than '0' then the antenna is not tuned very well. - 'Doc

    Coax Plug Problem

Sounds like a problem in the mounting. No idea what that problem might be though. I'd go over the mounting instructions again and pay attention to any diagrams/pictures included. Good luck. - 'Doc

    Thoughts on this antenna.

So basically you're saying that your antenna does work and that you have happy customers. Good for you, and good for them. But 15 dB better that some other antenna? I can believe that too. But just exactly what other antenna is it '15 dB' better than, and what kind'a 'dB's are those? You...

    Ameritron AL-80B

I think it does fine. Don't expect much over 800 watts without really 'pushing' it, but that does me just dandy on SSB. Also had the earlier AL-80A, both are the same basic amplifier with the '80B having an ALC circuit and a few other small changes. If you have a choice run it on 240 volts...

    radio interference opinion

If you are sure of the source of that noise, and it's the power lines, call your state utilities commission and tell them what's gone on. Be sure to let them know that you have complained to the power company and that they refuse to even check for that noise. - 'Doc

    W1AW/1 working Out-Of-Band operators

Considering that stations other habits, that band edge and not ID'ing doesn't amount to much. Wonder how many 'OO' cards were sent to W1AW through all this nonsense? - 'Doc

    Multi-band & Wilson 1000

If you have an antenna that will report less than 2:1 over a full 1 Mhz with no adjusting, you'd better not turn loose of it! Or the meter you're using to measure it with... - 'Doc

    Multi-band & Wilson 1000

There are a lot of antennas that can be used on 10 and 11 meters, that just depends on how you 'tune' them, adjust their length. Typically they are supplied with a whip that'll be 'close' for the lower frequency and can be shortened for the higher frequency. How much adjustment it'd take is...

    Multi-band & Wilson 1000

Guess it depends on what you mean by different bands and broad-bandedness. No single, non adjustable antenna will cover multiple 'bands' with a usable SWR with any modern radio. It's like expecting a "one size fit's all" thingy to actually 'fit' anything well except for one particular 'size'...

SOLARCON ANTRON 99 VERSES THE SOLARCON IMAX 2000

This sort of comparison isn't very informative. These antennas are completely different, one's a 1/2 wave, the other is a 5/8 wave, different characteristics completely. It boils down to the coverage of the radiation pattern. If one suits your purposes better than the other then that would be...

Mobile coil antenna "spring" change length?

And it would also benefit you if you don't assume the one you are talking to isn't as smart/informed as you are. Don't read more into what was said than was actually said. - 'Doc
