I wanted to listen to the local PD and repeaters in the area. Not so much scanning, just a few specific frequencies. I didn't think about the PD having a trunking system. :( Anything that has trunking capabilities under 50 bucks?
Hey guys,
I plan on purchasing a BaoFeng UV-5R for scanning purposes. Will I be able to receive the frequencies it lists without the programming cable?
Thanks
I've been trying to decide on a SSB rig... Uniden 980 ( I don't like the beep or the final blowing up unless you detune them) Galaxy 979 (drift and not the fun car kind) or RCI/Yeticom ($300+)
So... A Cobra for $180 seems be a good deal?
Have I overlooked something?
Hey guys,
How much would YOU pay for a Taiwan Cobra 148 gtl. Decent conditon, recap and alignment?
I have heard a lot of good things about these radios... But some prices on the internet are way to high in my book. Maybe I'm just way off the mark... :)
Thanks
I was real serious about getting my "ticket", took and passed the practice exams... Then I started looking at stuff like this ^^^ yeah I know there's cheaper ways to get into ham radio but... still really?
Anyway good luck and enjoy :)
Kenwood...
Wow! 1,200 to 1,500
I'll stick with my Cobra 29. No way in hell I could justify that. Might explain why I never got into ham radio... I literally paid less for my car--$900.
The Cobra/Undiens are real cb radio's. The 2950dx is an export, basically a ham radio. Repeater offsets ect... And IMO their butt ugly.
I think you would have a hard time finding a better receive than an old Uniden Grant XL.
If you could find an older 148 for less money than a 2950 dx I'd say go for it. In my opinion it would have better audio on AM. It will be great with the dx500. Running the dx500 with the 2950dx might give you a few more watts, but the receiving station won't notice.
Goos luck and let us know...
I didn't know about the rf gain getting burnt up. I read about it on cbradiomag, a site I usually trust :)
Would turning down vr4 or the mic gain help with not frying the final? I was just wanting to get my dead key down, not 150% modulation.
