I have decided I will buy one of these 2 radios, 2950dx, or a 148gtl/grant xl. I will be running it into a dx500v, and I am not sure if the 148 will run it hard enough. I know it is apples and oranges, but I really only run channel 19, and 27.335 to 27.455 and 27.555. I would think that wouldn't be too big of a problem to follow the road map on the 148, but have never owned one with extra channels. What would you choose? No, buying both is not an option, oil is way too low right now.

If you could find an older 148 for less money than a 2950 dx I'd say go for it. In my opinion it would have better audio on AM. It will be great with the dx500. Running the dx500 with the 2950dx might give you a few more watts, but the receiving station won't notice.

Goos luck and let us know what you choose! :)

The Cobra/Undiens are real cb radio's. The 2950dx is an export, basically a ham radio. Repeater offsets ect... And IMO their butt ugly.

I think you would have a hard time finding a better receive than an old Uniden Grant XL.

I have run rci's for years. Currently a 2950dx in the mobile driving a 2 pill. Works great especially ssb. Only complaint is the receiver is a little noisy. It needs better filtering. I was hoping this would be improved when the dx model came out but that's not the case. It's not a deal breaker, they do work well. Years ago I did have a grant and the receiver was great.. easier on the ears than the 29xx's

I think I will run my 955hp until I can find a good deal on a grant xl or 148. I had a 2950dx3 from DTB, and I didn't dislike it except for the squelch was a pain to operate in the dark, as was the mode selector. If I find an old grant and I fall in love with it, so be it. If not, it shouldn't be too difficult to sell.

I have a 2950 on my bench to listen to and use it to set my radios I am working on.ran it mobile when I 1st got it but hard to read the buttons going down the road. so it works great in my shop as a bench radio.
I like the old cobra side mic 148gtl's and uniden grant XL and LT radios. of the 3 I like the uniden grant LT the best for sound on receive and out put. I have collected 3 of the LT radios over the years.

2950dx is a nice radio.
I don't have any problem with the receive. mine came from DTB, so maybe it's the alignment.
My 2950dx came from dtb and I had him do the filter mod. This is supposed to clean up the receive. I didn't have the radio before the mod since I ordered it new from dtb so no way I could compare before and after. Receiver is definitely better than my old orange face 2970. http://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/dtb-if-filter-mod-for-rci-29xx-radios.154703/

Get a new RCI 2970N4, 400+w it has everything you new.
Or if you must run the ts500 then get a Yeticomnz Optima mklll it has all you need, and I too love this rig, you can look it up on this site. BELLS CB for the RCI 2970N4. CALL and talk to the boss. Optima mklll,
on the web.

Ok, lots of people are pushing the optima. Can you scan the cb frequencies with the scan function, then tune to 27.555? From what I have seen, if you want to scan cb, it has to be jumpered for cb, and can't go outside those frequencies. Is this correct?
