I rebuilt my P500 last year using all new parts from MFJ. Less then thirty bucks including freight. Search this site for info. I'll post the number and part number this weekend if someone else doesn't.
Take your time with it! Do it right and your be glad you did. My antenna is one of the best...
A radio shop in our local truck stop here will analyse an antenna system for nothing! Nice guys!
Wasn't the 102" SS whip designed for 23 channel radios?
Sweet deal on getting a truck! That will make life easier for you.
As far as my antenna goes, I haven't messed with it much! I'm becoming a puss when it comes to heat and we have had a record breaking summer with 113 degree days. Now that it's not getting into the 100s I'll venture out more...
I run a 2950DX, a four pill mobile, on a power supply, a D-104, and a P. 500 at 36'! I have neighbors on both sides of me. Their houses are fifteen and 25 ft. from mine! Everything is bonded and grounded with clean audio!
I've talked to both sets of neighbors, and they never know when I'm...
Oatmeal, I replaced the connector, wire, and the eyelet myself! If you can run a soldering iron it's a piece of cake!
I replaced the light weight wire with 12 gauge as I run alittle fire through that wire!
Go back with stainless hardware and seal everything well. :thumbup1:
On the gamma wire, one leg is longer then the other! The new ones or at least the one they sent me, the opposite side is longer! Why they did this is a mystery! Maybe it has something to do with the lightning protection thingy that are on the new ones?! So anyway get the new plastics and gammas...
Yes all the parts were used! Some minor modifications had to be done because the gamma wires are designed alittle different. No big deal though! I have the older version with the two bold design as well. Clean it well. I used mineral spirits and fine steel wool. Seal it well and take your time...
I had P500s in the past and will say these are one of the best if not the best ground planes made!
Recently I picked up another used one. I spent a couple weekends cleaning and replacing everything that didn't look good! Most parts can still be had.
After all the work it's at 36 ft. to the...
I have real good luck with a RCI 2995 DX and a RCI 2950 DX. Modulating with a home made compressor/processor with built in echo ( for texture an depth) on the 2995! Simple external echo on the 2950! Both radios driven with a silver eagle. A little mobile four pill for help. The best part is we...
He'll make sure it's resonate, swrs are flat and the field strength meter is happy! Nothing special, we want it the best it can be when we put it up for good. He's put together several of these, but as you know no two are alike even with store-bought. With each application they all need fine tuning.
I'm with ya, on the no time for the hobby's! I did have one of my buddy's put up a three element PDL this past weekend! We did an across town-(about 20 mile) radio check and his antenna is working real well. Flat swr and tight. He's happy with it and says it works allot better with the added...
Shockwave, your boy better hurry! The PDL4 has been in service for years! It's a PDL2 and a MR4 combined at around 14 DB. I have one in my utility trailer that I received from the builder last week. It'll be reaching out and touching you in a few weeks!
Okie, unless your stacking beams, you...
