    AT-5555N2 audio boost

thank you for your good explanation. i reckon that'd be alike to if the person was speaking slower, allowing more audio to get into human ears? if a station has trouble hearing me, that's my "go to" solution vs echo or yelling at the radio. good topic for posting so others can learn stuff they...

    AT-5555N2 audio boost

i know a fellow with same radio. very hard to hear him @ 23 miles range with my s6 noise floor. he applied (imo) too much echo, and i could hear him better. when he backed it down to "barely noticeable", it was still carrying better than with it turned off. my $0.02 worth

    11 meter is very quiet?

i sure do appreciate that Mr Greg. crt6900v, untouched right out of the box. beats spending $100 on alignment on everything else i tried. always keeping the tx @ 15w, lmr240, pt99 with an unbeatable s6 noise floor, pin 4 removed from an astatic 636L mic. all the same back at you

What's in your bug out bag?

2 sharp knives, 1 with hammer cap, fishing line, lighters, tp (to use as wicking water filter as well), water bottle, empty ziplock bags, socks, soap, earplugs, very small shovel, pens/paper, bible. everything else can be sourced. knowledge of your area's edibles, wildlife, population density...

What does everyone think about the Galaxy dx-959

a tech went through my new 959b, i was new to ssb. he fixed the awful high pitch noise, there is no drift (winter, summer, or long qso), and it swings lots. doesn't get hot on long qso like the chopped 86v i got from ebay that he also worked on. useless freq counter imo. several options to...

    11 meter is very quiet?

that's curious about the 10m situation. as stated before, i was relaying what i had heard others saying about why 11m was quiet, as the thread is titled about. i really should have taken more consideration with my own words though. chill pills got thrown out when i got divorced, no need for them...

    11 meter is very quiet?

apartment 25yds from a major intersection. blinking lights, street lights, neon signs in a store, and 3 other apartments in this house, likely sharing the same ground. pt99 @ 27ft with a good ground there. lmr240 going to a dosy meter, chokes on everything that could make a difference in here...

    11 meter is very quiet?

yessir, 2 decades on 27.185 has got me very used to all kinds of folks. ssb has been a very welcomed change in comparison. sometimes, i like it when 11m ssb is very quiet. static gives me a reassurance that nothing bad is happening, and i don't communicate with that facebook thing. if i have...

    11 meter is very quiet?

yes, i basically live under a rock. working 14hr days in the transportation industry using 27.185 to hear and inform others about road conditions for 25 years. never talked on ssb till a year ago. apologies for violating everybody's sanity with my comment

    11 meter is very quiet?

i guess 2 disclaimers were insufficient: "according to" and "just sharing information". now i can go to those operators and tell them what the cb bible operators say. i hate swearing on the radio but can do nothing about it besides turn it off. we don't have as good of conditions in ohio as...

    11 meter is very quiet?

after talking to many operators, some of the reasons 11m is getting more quiet is because there are so many people sick of getting stomped on by "out of band" ham operators. most of them using WAY more than the allowed power, bragging about their icoms, and cussing up a storm because they are...

what radios have the best ears ?

just picked up an optima mk2, enjoying some of the features. waiting for a steady station locally at a good distance to be able to judge the filters in comparison to the 6900v7 and 959. with shottky diodes, the 949/959 was my favorite for a listening experience.

    curious coax cable (answered)

a friend picked up some coax, pre-assembled, from facebook. right out of the gate, that sounded scary. it is white, stiffer than lmr400, has 259's installed, and labeled as following.. Commscope 0216 9700851 10awg 125cmp(etl) c(etl) hns# 1010809 rev c eo22181. i dug around on the web and...

    11 meter is very quiet?

i found ssb about a year ago after 20 years of driving and using only AM. it has been interesting to see how the conditions move around depending on the season. haven't heard europe for a couple weeks, but there's been a whole mess of those E clouds and short range skip has been happy. it has...
