That is correct. I run 10 watts into a homebrew dipole and mobile antenna, and am routinely making it into Europe, now that the sunspot cycle is ramping up.
If the battery is dead/seriously discharged, the red light will flash for 10-20 mins, indicating a slow charge to prevent damage to the battery. After 10-20 mins, the light should go steady red. If is STAYS flashing, the charger has issues.
Yes... I have over a dozen QSL cards on my wall to prove it. HT with stock antenna. Also several QSLs made via a small yagi. AO51 and AO27 are best in the USA for this.
I agree. The Grant series was great all without getting shredded in some hack shop.
Why do people destroy a wonderful piece of communications equipment. Looks like the auction ended... some sucker bought it :(
Not gonna happen... Even many truck drivers don't use CB. On board computers, cell phones, GPS.
Why listen to all the cussing, jamming, and other BS? Drivers that have CBs are hassled by locals wanting to get their jollies... or "skip shooters" jamming channel 19.
For us non-drivers, why...
DO NOT clip the limiter!
DO NOT buy a "mod kit"
DO NOT let anyone cut, chop, or add/remove ANY components from the radio.
(exception, channel expansion)
DO NOT use an amplifier. They are dirty and of low-quality.
DO NOT buy ANY radio, other than an FCC type-accepted CB.
(too...
I have the capability, using a beam antenna, to determine a general direction. Looking at signal strength, I can determine a rough distance. Over time, the rogue station can be located. In my area, recently, this was done. Othere were involved, with similar methods. If it is a "one time...
Well, if any licensed amateur talks to an unlicensed user, then *they themselves* are in violation of regulations, as a ham CANNOT talk to an unlicensed person.
It is indeed sad that a newcomer becomes "suspect". This can scare some folks away.
Amateur radio has an FCc mandate to be...
Oh.. how I loved that series of movies :)
As the thread no deviates further off topic.... sorry as much as a butthead as I can be.. I also can be the class clown... once I've been "educated" enough :tt1:
I agree! Hams can do whatever modifications we want with our gear, as provided under Part 97. Once we transmit, we violate Part 95(d) as we are using non type-accepted equipment. This is common on UHF/VHF. We can listen on FRS, GMRS, MURS.. BUT we cannot transmit, as our radios do not meet the...
Ah.. ok.. thanks for the clarification. We really need to get together and do a REAL writeup on Part 15. Where I'm going with this though is WAY off topic with 10 meter and CB radios.
Then, my argument is over. Plain and simple. The "below 30 mhz" concluded my last issue with Part 15. *Not applicable*
Thanks for taking me to school  I must read and learn.
Honestly, it is the fault of the FCC for not making their rules understood by everyone. So many fights have gone on because one person interprets regs different.
We all can quote regs forever, and interpret them as we see fit. 99.99% of the public cannot understand "legalese"... myself...
Well, hell, I used a converted CB on 10 meters... not the best game in town but it works. And yes.... broke ass ham getting on 10 for $30 shipped.
Just confused at some of the "10 meter" radios out there:lol: one of the AM/FM rigs out there *doesn't even cover the 29 mhz FM 10 meter...
