    Rant,Rave @ Decision Time Help

Most of the new Icom radios go Orange, yellow or green..... I'm in the same financial boat Dealer, the wife gives me lunch money and a few extra spending bucks every payday. What I do is buy it on a credit card, then take a little out of my allowance each week to put towards the CC payment...

    Contest

Radio Tech..... I very much dislike radio contests, I believe it brings the ignorance out of ham's who for the most part are decent operators any other time they are on the air. I have personally been told to.... "get off 10 meters, this is a contest not a rag chew session"..... I have...

Nope.....Got an old Kenwood TS-130S for $200.00 off eBay..... Might buy one of those IC-718's for our OEM if they ever get the funding squared away, then I'll have their's to play with until I can get one of my own.....

    Silent Key

My most memorable moment of Walter Cronkite was watching him desperately try to maintain his composure while broadcasting the assassination of JFK. I grew up watching the nightly news with KB2GSD at the microphone, and read his book "North by Northeast". Rest in Peace Walter....

    TV offer rip-off....

I've been watching the TV offer for the Eco-Canteen for a while now, seeing that it might be a good alternative to bottled water I decided to jot down the 800 number, and give them a call, I will now relate to you what this scam entails..... Now the add on TV informs you that you get the adult...

    Check Out Bing.com Maps

I played with the maps last night, the images are the same as Google Earth, at least the images of my house and fire station are, and they are a few years old. It is pretty cool though......:thumbup1:

    VX-8R Maritime Operation

Breaking it down to the functionallity of it all, there's no real practical difference between a 5 watt VHF Marine HT, and a 5 watt Amateur HT. The Marine HT will Tx & Rx between (approx) 156.00 Mhz to 158.00 Mhz. The 2 meter Amateur HT between 144.00 Mhz. and 148.00 Mhz. That puts then...

What is keeping you from going ham?

I fall into the group of "Past CB'er, present Ham"..... I'm not going to get into my own history, but would only like to say that I "DITTO" ORN's post concerning this issue 100%......

    Ice Cream Man

Much like Weasel, in my town we got the white trashy looking dude in a beat up 60's panel van with a loud speaker bolted to the roof playing that God awful merry-go-round music at 90 Db's.... You can hear him coming a mile away, and like Weasel I often wish I could dispatch that obnoxious...

    VX-8R Maritime Operation

I've lived on the Atlantic Coast all my life, been involved in various aspects of the Maritime industy for a good part of my 52 years here, and in my experience I will relay the following.... The chances of you getting into any kind of legal difficulty from using a HAM HT on the VHF Marine...

    Good drugs and Prius commercials

Lucky for me H.R. Puff n Stuff came along after I was at an age to enjoy suck child like entertainment.... As for that little POS Toyota, wouldn't want to get broadsided by a Mack truck in one of those Green Peace tin cans. Where the hell is Ralph Nader with these dangerous little...

    Random wire part II......

Pretty much what I was doing Mole, but I used a standard flat blade shovel. The problem with following my back fence is my neighbor has ivy that grows through my fence, I had to chop through the ivy, and all the roots in my soil just to get a shallow trench to bury the wire. either way I do it...

    Random wire part II......

Well Doc, it was above 80° F in my back yard today, and I only buried about half of the radial, the rest is just laying on top along the fence line.....I lost 10 pounds digging trenches..... Never did get to test it on 40 meters today...(busy with other stuff)....but I did make a quick 80...

What's the latest with Glen Baxter K1MAN?

Is this the guy from Canada that broadcasts a bunch of political nonsense, and goes off on long winded tangents about pretty much anything on 14.313 Mhz.....?

    Random wire part II......

OK....here's what I originally had that worked very well on both the 40 and 75/80 meter bands..... Twisted and covered wire stripped out of old #10 gauge fire service extension chord. It exited my tuner on the east side of my garage, was hung insulated from the fascia board around to the back...

    Random wire part II......

I have a central ground for all my amateur radio equipment, all my radios and antenna tuner are tied together via a bus bar with a ground wire running outside to a ground rod. My random wire antenna exits the garage on the same side as the ground rod, but crosses over the back of the garage...

    Random wire part II......

To tell you the truth Mole, I have no idea exactly how long the thing is... as for the ground, the antenna tuner is connected to the central ground system.....that's my ground.....

    Icom IC-92AD.....???

If I was buying this radio myself for my own use I would seriously look into that KingCobra, but all this stuff for OEM has to be purchased through state approved contractors, and for us here in the Sorprano State, that means either KJI Electronics, or HRO, we deal with HRO. Our other...
