I was talking on the unit the other day and all at once my clearifier was off. I had to move it to the 3pm position to RX/TX on freq. I took the cover off and my power supply is only producing 11v plugged in radio off. 10.5 v radio on RX and 9.8 on w/MOD TX SSB. I do not have a service manual...
In the string up above I mentioned that I had Ameritron ARB704(12) for Icom. I think you stated that it didn't need a buffer but from what I understand in this reply is I should have the buffer and ALC control because of the 7300. If I am correct the ARB704 will do exactly what your suggesting...
OK sounds good. I will be using my Icom 7300, AL 811, MFJ 994b tuner and homebrew EFHW 80-10. The way I understand for running less power out of the amp I should still tune it for max at max drive and then then just cut back my drive level to the desired out put, is that correct? Thanks again...
I recently acquired an 811. The gentleman I got it from said the soft key was bad and was just using a foot pedal. I'm trying to figure out what exactly does soft key mean? Is it a buffer for overloading at key up? If so I already have an ARB 704 for my Icom. Would this work until I can get the...
I appreciate the info Gary. At this time I have what I need. I like the look of the Swan cabinet and it interested me at first, you know that piece that will set on the shelf for looks!. I just don't know anything about tube amp's so needed to ask.

I do appreciate the feedback. I did not purchase this unit as I decided it was not ideal for me. It is nice to have a community that can help avoid making bad decisions. I do have possession of the unit because the owner doesn't know much about it either. So I thought maybe could get some good...
Thank you. I have added some pics here maybe it will help someone else in their adventures. It does look like they added a relay to use with a foot pedal maybe?
I have a gentleman that has a Swan 1200-w with 4 31LQ6 tubes. The manual states it has 4 6LQ6 tubes. I think it stated it needed 100-125 w of drive and would do 1200 w peak on SSB. I am interested in purchasing this from him as it covers 80-10 meters. Im assuming the 4 31LQ6's was a conversion...
Update..
So what I have done is replaced all the bad value parts as I pulled them out and tested 1 at a time. The 2290 & 2789 are all good with forward induction. At this time it was still not working correctly, it would pass thru signal fine and the SWR staying the same. When I would key up...
I have a 568 BLYC transistor pictured below. I am unable to find any information or cross reference on this. Can anyone help? Its out of a Boomer RX-100
Thanks
I was looking for a manual online but haven't found one yet for the Aries HP-5000. The SSB switch is with the Avg/Pk/Ssb switch so I don't think its for ssb modulation. Does anyone know what the difference would be from peak to ssb?
Thanks everyone for trying to help me out here. I know how to check what I call a regular transistor but for whatever reason I was thinking that the 2290 / 2879 had some kind of "superpowers" that had to be tested differently (my ignorance). I did not know I could just lift the base off the...
Thanks for your reply.. I am working on a LA900 I attempted to reach out to Paul on the forum but with no response. My apologies I thought I gave enough info to ask how to check the transistor. I was using 3w from the radio into the amp. I was using a car battery with #6 power wire only 12.8v...
I am currently working on an amp that does not have any power output. It is running a 2290 into 4 2879. When I started to work on it, was producing 200-300 watts. It should be around 800 I think. I got inside and found a few small issues, replaced a bad solder joint on the hi/lo power switch...
