I got one just like that and love it. Actually got mine in a similar manner. It was pretty much brand new, minus the box. Great receive, and from what reports I get and what the local crowd tells me it has great audio. I usually use a stock mic with it, some times I use a d104 m6b. Pretty much...
I had a stock 60amp civic alt rewound to 150amps. Works Great but is a little expensive at $250. Also use a sp680 stinger cap for a little extra help. Runs all the extra componets to their potential.
no diff. just low volume. happens in all modes. It looks like d23 & d24 are the troubles. The radio is ok cept for that. Only gave $25 for it like it is, Figured I can't go wrong. Waiting on parts now.
I run about 8in of 4ga from the batt. to a 100 amp breaker, from there 4ga runs to a stinger sp680 capacitor in the trunk, from the cap the pwr lead goes to a distibution/ fuse block from which all non vehical electronics are supplied with power,ie CB and car stereo. Each with correct fuses. As...
upgraded all my ground connections. ie, bigger wire, and adding a few more grounds, keep singal wires/cable away from power wires and built the simple noise filter as described in the homebrew section ( I think it's a sticky even). My mobile is very quiet, don't even have the dreaded wiper...
Thanks Carl. I have this mod done on my gen. lee and both my galaxy 88hl and 99v. When I opened up the 959 the diode did not look the same as my other radios, so I figured that I would ask.
Either way the mod is now done and works great. I located the micro switch on the rear of the radio...
I run a 959 in my mobile, and I love it. It matches well with the rest of my equipment and I do get good reports on it's output. I've had a few cobra's, still do, and while they are good radios in their on right, they don't compare with any of my galaxy radios, or my ranger radios for that matter.
I've got LED's in the meter on my 2985. They are the clear ones, but to solve the light diffusing issue I covered the inside of the "bucket" the lights mount in with chrome vinyl. It gives the meters a very bright crisp light with no dim spots. The dimmer still works right too.
