How effective can the dual fans be with the 3-inch-high aluminum plate blocking the path for heat to escape? There is a heat sink behind the finals and the power supply has a fan. I don't get it. The fans are always on.

I'm not certain, but I don't think the direction / position of an antenna affects SWR, unless maybe if the vehicle was in an enclosed building or garage. Go ahead and try transmitting and see / hear what happens next. Good Luck with that experiment.

Go ahead and hold the whip in the horizontal position and notice how much it bends towards the ground. Talking skip is a hit or miss game and all about conditions.

Update. High SWR! The roof rack rails are metal, and I assumed they were directly attached / bolted to the metal roof, but they are not. The front and rear of the rails are connected to non-metallic base plates concealed by plastic covers, therefore the antenna mount is not grounded...

My guess is that the board was secured with the screws prior to connecting the tab and the board was bent down to attach the tab.

Yes, it is possible, but I don't have the radio. I am assuming this is not the first and only radio produced and released with a bent board because the hole was probably punched / drilled by an assembly line machine. The assembly line must continue to move, and installer of the board had no...

Removing the screws will not resolve the issue because the location / position of the "tab" is applying down-pressure on the board. The location of the hole for the tab is the cause of defect.
