    MFJ Moxon

Well this whole thread has been exceptionally informative. Many thanks to all the commentors. My Moxon is about to be built for 11 meters. Ain't this fun. BTW, I put together a dipole inverted V for my first build a couple of weeks ago. Hung it in a tree about 26' to the center point with the...

    Mast Material / Metal ?

Antennas like the A-99 or Tram 1498 don't need a counterpoise. They are 1/2 wave over 1/4 wave antennas. They have their own counterpoise. The also don't need a GP. I have my Tram mounted on top of a 3/4" steel pipe. I have no issues with at all. SWR 1.1 to 1.2 from ch. 1 to ch. 40. RF power...

Tram 1498 base antenna issues and fixes

I bought one and it had all the parts, tuned to almost flat at both 1 and 40 using the 60 mm measurement for the steel rod adjustment. Did not have to move the tunning rings from where they were located at the center of the threaded section. Mounted it on top of the peak of my roof on top of a...

    1)2 wave vertical dipole

For an 11 meter dipole in an inverted V orientation, I just copied the length for the wires from the ones they have on sale on Ebay, bought a 1:1 balun rated to 500 watts for $40 off Amazon, measured out the correct amount of no. 12 AWG copper wire (insulated) and connected that to the balun...

Rocketbox info thread !!! Made in the USA with a reasonable pricetag !

I just ordered a HD 250 MOS from his website. He had a sale going on this past weekend on those. I think I saw on FB that he is extending the sale for a few more days. Thanks to WINKDOGG for the notice of his products. He responded fairly quickly to my questions about it before I pulled the...

    big momma

Here's a great article on Copper Electronics about the 'Big Mama' and also testing between most of the popular current mobile antennas. https://www.copperelectronics.com/articles/big_coil_antennas_exposed.php

    big momma

Back in the 70's the best antenna I ever had on my truck was a Big Mama mounted in the center of the roof on my Astro 95. Took the power from a Palomar 500 being pushed from a peaked out to 12 watts Pace 2300 no problem.

    Small station

Compared to most of you guys I'm just barely in the game. In my defense I'm just coming back to the hobby after about a 40 yr. layoff doing other things. Got too old to do the other things anymore so I've come back to a thing I've missed ever since I sold my trucks and went on to those 'other...

    HANGING A DIPOLE VERTICALLY

If I'm not mistaken, the antennas like the A-99 and my personal favorite of this type antenna, the Tram 1498, both are 1/2 wave over 1/4 wave antennas and that is their counterpoise and therefore the coax never gets involved in the equation. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong and if so...
