    Ham Radio Question

I understand. My Elmer is the same way but I'm working on him. I'm not a rag chewer and I don't operate SSB. I like to chase DX and work contests. I would prefer a CW contact but I'll take what I can get.

    Ham Radio Question

A half wave, resonant dipole, up a half wavelength in the air is hard to beat. I used a fan dipole for 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m and 100w to work my first 150 DXCC. I learned CW along the way that helped a lot. Now with FT8, it is possible to work stations around the whole world in a day.

    Ham Radio Question

I think many hams get sucked into big radios with lots of buttons. Looks impressive but often is overkill for the operating needs of most hams. I'm thinking of the Icom 7850, Kenwood TS-990. Elecraft K4. They are good radios, and pretty to look at, but you can spend far less for just as good...

    Ham Radio Question

Brother DX, Even when the solar cycle is at its lowest the bands will still be busy. 40 meters, 30 meters (you can run digital modes on this band), and 20 meters are always busy. Take Crawdad's advice and study for both the Technician and General exam. A tech license really limits the...

Home TIDRADIO TD-H3 VHF/UHF HT Review

I bought the two radio pack from Amazon. Tested both on a spectrum analyzer to test the harmonic attenuation. One was fine with similar results as Moleculo. The other was found to be transmitting off frequency compared to the VFO. Set for 145.555 (simplex) and was transmitting on 138.500...

    QRP operations

I had a 705 but wanted to have more power than 10w max sometimes. Thought about getting a Hard Rock 50w amp but I thought the price was too high. Sold the 705 and used that money to buy the FT-710 and a 20Ah LifePO4 battery . I use the 710 for portable ops (POTA).

    VK0DS Macquarie Island

VK0DS activation of Davis Station in Antarctica (Australia). He has been on 17m, FT8, the past few mornings. I worked him at 10:30 UTC. His signal was +02 in the northeast US. It is DXCC entity #153. IOTA AN-005. POTA AQ-0035. CQ Zone 30. That is #302 for me:eek:

    Ah the good old days

I had that radio when I was a teenager in the 1970's. Spent many nights talking to by buddies on Channel 22. CB radio was the Facebook equivalent of our time. My dad was a ham and he let me put an antenna on his tower. First was a Super Scanner (3 phased dipoles). Not much directivity...

    POTA haters and purposeful interference.

I worked FT4GL this morning. It is a POTA station. TF-0008 Glorioso Archipelago National Nature Reserve. it is also #301 DXCC for me. I appreciate his POTA activation. https://ft4gl.blogspot.com/

    300 DXCC confirmed. Finally

Attached is a list of the DXCC that I'm missing. The current DXCC list of all entities is 340, so I have 40 more to work and confirm. A total of 331 is needed for Honor Roll and 340 for #1 Honor Roll. I was licensed in 2008 and didn't have an HF station capable of working DX untilI 2010...

    Mobile Ham operations banned?

From ARRL Atlantic Division Director Bob Famiglio, K3RF. Pennsylvania hams just scored a BIG win in getting mobile ham radio exempted from their new handsfree law:

    300 DXCC confirmed. Finally

A52CI, Bhutan, confirmed to bring my total DXCC to 300. I was stuck at 290 for almost two years. Solar cycle 25 was a big help Need 331 for Honor Roll. Doubt I’ll make that before I die. I’ll probably be around for Solar Cycle 26 but I doubt I’ll make 27. Also,

    Icom 756-pro opinion

That is a nice radio and fair price for the radio if it is good condition and you don't need a tuner. If you are looking to buy your first Ham radio I suggest you don't buy that one. There are better used radios in the $500-$600 range. A used Kenwood TS-590s is a modern radio that is still...

    XU7GNY Cambodia

    XU7GNY Cambodia

XU7GNY is on the air. I was able to work him FT8 on 30m and 17m. There was controversy about whether this activation was legal in Cambodia but has now been approved for DXCC by the ARRL. See below "The political/regulatory climate in Cambodia has changed, and despite a pause in early 2023...
