Base 1/2 wave horizontal dipole question

I have a 1/2 wave horizontal dipole I put up about two years ago...works great.

I'm getting ready to put up a second one in another spot to radiate North & South. This one gives me some opportunities regarding mounting points.. Crude pencil drawing below hopefully explains that.

I would like to have the feed point with balun attached to the center 20' fiberglass pole (already in place) so that the coax would go straight down the pole from the mounting point. One end of hanging cord will be attached to a tree at 20'. The other end I can easily attach to another 20' pole.

Entire dipole array will be at 20' elevation level from the ground from one end to the other. But...looking at the wire from top or bottom it will not be a straight 180*. It will have an angle in it somewhere around 150* to 160*

What problem might I expect from this.? SWR? One side of antenna more directional than the other? Anything else?

I do not think that small amount of bend will show up at all, in theory it will work a tiny bit better off the mouth of the v, but I do not think it would amount to much on that slight of a bend.

I had an inverted V that looked just like your drawing (one leg kicked in about 30 degrees). SWR and performance were unaffected as far as I could tell.

An Inverted V will talk in a 360 degree circle & takes away the need for Two dipoles. Are you running the wires as a Flat Top & not as an inverted V? If so what do you see as the advantage or disadvantages of the other configuration?

Yes I’m going to mount it as a Flat Top. I’ve had one up as an inverted V before and liked it fine. Seemed to be more omnidirectional and that was OK too.

Flat Top seems more directional and that’s what I’m looking for. My other horizontal set up for E/W. This one will be for N/S.

I do have a vertical antenna as well.

I think it will be slightly more directional towards the outside (away from the "fishmouth"). It will also likely be a slightly better match as in closer to 50 ohms. In my opinion.

Put it up and use it, you will be hard pressed to notice much if any difference in performance with the slight slant you have.

There is no mention of frequency which has everything to do with radiation pattern by elevation.

I think you are picturing the classic figure-8 pattern so of course, two dipoles at 90 degrees would give better coverage... but only around a half-wave high.

At 20 feet high 15 meters is directional, 20 meters is slightly directional, 40 meters is circular with a teensy bit of directionality.
