10 meter beam project

I am building a 10 meter beam and used antenna design freeware program for a 4 element on 28.500 Mhz.

This thing is much bigger than I thought, 17ft long boom and the elements are 17ft down to 15ft. I dont know now if I want to put it up now. I coild remodel it as a 3 element but not sure. I might just throw it up on a mast, tune swr and if it is decent just play a little with it lol.

I will post pics if I can get them small enough.

Do it either way you want, but there's no way I'd do the work of building it and then not at least putting it up for a trial run.

Yes I finally started the thing and will test it, I did not think it was going to be so big. When I read the measurements I thought it did not seem so till I started building it on my deck. My wife said where the heck is that going!!! HA HA.

This project would be finished but we have rain here constantly, all needed is to put the gamma on and adjust it. If it tunes and works well I will prob give it to someone who is into 10 meters. I like 10 but having more fun on 15 and 20 that I changed my mind on putting up a mono band.I am looking for a used Mosley 33 or Cushcraft A4S tribander.

Anyway I will post picks and details as soon as I can get outside to finish. (Stupid rain)

Here is an old gamma from a Maco shooting star and actully all the parts I am using is from this old antenna I got from a SK for the price of getting it and the tower down before the home went up for auction. I called Maco and ordered a new connector which is much heavier than the old original. Also got new straps for mounting the gamma. I did not feel like cleanibg the old ones up lol.

Here are the measurments I am using for 28.500 mhz. length is 16.06 ft, reflector is 17.64 ft, driven is 16.85 ft, director 1 is 16.17 ft, director 2 is 15.37 ft.

This is the spacing. reflector to driven is 5.18 ft, driven to director 1 is 3.76 ft, director 1 to director 2 is 7.122 ft.

Here are the spects, forward gain is 9.06 dbi, front to back is 16.05 dbi, input impedance is 39.5 +J 6.4 ohm.

I will attach the elements and gamma as soon as this crazy rain stops.

He ran 3-4 hundred watts, it looks that way because of the nut holding the coax and gamma straps were not stainless and rusted discolaring the aluminum. The shooting star was up mor than 20 years.

Had one day of no rain for about 4 hours so I rushed getting it together, just need to get the gamma on it and tuned.

It just got finished raining here, More rain in the forcast tomorrow and all week, what the heck! I will never get everything done.

well the weather held for a change and I got the gamma mounted. I was very surprized when I hooked the MFJ 259 up and turned it on, the swr was at 1.6. I tuned the capacitor in about 4" and then the slider strap and got it to 1.1. Here are the pics, I just hope it does not change in the wrong way when I get it up. Oh, it is pretty broad banded too. I can use it without a tunner on 11 also. Must have done some thing right lol.
