102" whip vs the rest

Come on Shock, What if I water gated it what else would you say? I didnʻt get his attention til I swapped out the antennas and as I said "I never mentioned it to him". He only heard me when I mounted the 10K period. and no, I never switched back to the whip or whatever your ASSUMING. When Honolulu came in, I couldnʻt get back to him due to the fact that he was on the East end of the Island and had a better RX on them instead of me. If you think Im lying well go ahead, Im not lying, Im just posting what happened and asking inputs on it.

Doc said it Propagations, antennas, etc or maybe a different colored flip flops.

Thatʻs an eve of the roof of the garage. If that played a roll in messing with the signals maybe thats the reason for it.

Im not here to argue with you, just want some answers.

Good nite Shock, Aloha. James...

Mini, I'm not quick to assume anyone is a liar when it comes to describing their results with antennas. There are so many variables to consider long before assuming the messenger is dishonest. Like what I thought was a gutter judging by the nail I see sticking out. Look a little closer under those roof shingles and I'm sure you're going to find a metal drip edge there causing the same problems.

The location of your mount is ideal for that truck. It goes completely against normal results that you would have no signal to 57 with the full length antenna only to be at 100% copy with the loaded antenna. Assuming you are truthful, that immediately puts me on the hunt for things like the drip edge in the roof.

Our roof edges dont have Gutters. The nail was for Christmas light hanging thatʻs all. What does a metal drip edge have effect on the 102" and not the 10K?

Like Doc mentioned could be a number a things.

But thanx for pointing out the variables Shock. Aloha. James

Beetle your cracking me up,

The County is Thanking you for throwing your trash in the trash can. Mahalo means Thank You.

Ah! "Mahalo" ... I know that word. I saw it stenciled on every trash can on both sides of Kalakaua last time I was in Honolulu. And being the somewhat great detective that I am, I immediately deduced that "mahalo" means "trash can". Right...?

mini, you said you talked to him for a couple of minutes, then you could't get back to him.

So you had a period of no communicaiton with the 102, then a period of no communication with the 10K...

There are certain situations where the 10K will outperform a 102, but in general that is not the case.

It's like blaming the board for a bad surf...

The variables affecting radio comms of this sort far outweight the small differences in these two antennas. I've had base-to-base comms on fixed antennas change with the hour of day and drastically with the change in season.

Try your experiment over a 100 days and record the results. Then you might have identified a special certain situation where the 10K works better. But try it (100 days) again at the other end of the dirveway, or around the block somewhere and see if it's the same.

The first 1-2 minutes I was trying to contact him that was with the 102", I made contact after I switched to the 10K. Im not blaming anyone I was asking for opinion or answers.

But yes variables do play in this case. Maybe a different local/situations will yield different. outcome. But, thanx you for the input C2, Aloha. James....

try it out in a open area with nothing around you meaning no cars no buildings nothing , a coil would have a higher angle of radiation and thus more signal could have gone over the obstruction.

.................................. a coil would have a higher angle of radiation and thus more signal could have gone over the obstruction.

somebody in a location that would benefit from the effect you mentioned would certainly feel the external coil mobile antennas are superior to a full length antenna , without more testing/comparisons . a similar situation may be the culprit behind some of the outrageous merlin claims , though i suspect $$$ and/or feeling important by association with a builder as well as some nut hugging is at play sometimes too .

Will do Burb, obstruction must have been the culprit then.

@ Booty: Im the only one running a coiled antenna here. Iʻve never met 57 before and he has never seen my mobile before so he doesnʻt know what kinda antenna I have and what kinda mobile I have and Im in no way associated with the builder; I just prefer his product for light weight, compact (Heigth wise), easy tuning and performance and no Booty no nut hugging in the air (what ever that is-maybe you have experienced nut hugging but not me.) I also run my 102" whip.

All I asked for was an explanation on the issue not to be called a nut hugger. I like that, nut hugger. Much more gentler or a nicer way to say it...

Thanx for the comment Booty. Aloha 1-5......

And just to clear up some possible misunderstanding. That coil has nothing to do with radiation angle, the length of the antenna does though. Indirectly, the coil can have an effect, but not directly.

15 , the first part was in support of your report of your results .
the second part wasn't directed at you at all , i was posting that part with the merlin fanatics in mind . i apologize for not being clearer on that .

i have no problem with you at all ;)

trash can , hehehehehe

OK, no prob Booty. Aloha, 1-5....

One of the 4th grade girls at the school where I volunteer was wearing a T-shirt with a picture of a
