The way things used to be. Been stopping here since 1966.

But howdya know it’s a real truckstop?”

“Easy. Full restaurant, smoking & non-smoking. Showers free with 100-gals purchased. Chrome Shop. Tire Shop. Mechanics Shop. CB Shop.

Miss Agnes been at the fuel desk since Jimmy Carter years. Claudine and Opal in the restaurant since they were in the high school their kids also graduated.

Mr Thompson will hold a check back a few days like he’d do for Daddy, and Willis quits the tire shop mobile truck about every three years before coming back broke as ever in six weeks.

BUT . . . no such thing as a REAL truckstop unless someone’s living out back.

And war surplus. Ain’t a real truckstop to be found doesn’t have war surplus here & there built into the structure. .

All five of the surviving USN Skipjack-Class submarines wound up here after nuclear de-commissioning.

A complicated swap involving rare airplanes built & paid for — but never used by the USAAF in WWII — from factories across the Great Plains.

It’s bomber country out here. Still train ‘em at Altus, OK a bit north & west.

Had SW DX most of the day. Lots of the same familiar stations but I won't complain, better than listening to static :)

Wound up parked between two noise monsters. Had been looking forward to going West since last week. Different terrain. Roof of the World feeling in making the climb up the Llano Estacado.

On to Denver-area today.
watch out in the mile high city, they went bonkers on us
