Noticed that through various selection of repurposed switches I can actually hit LSB and USB channels which are already accessed via LSB/AM/USB. What I realized is with the switches it seems that the AM carrier is being trans.....Freq. counter is now functioning as though in normal AM.

What is the benefit of this? The band range is increased to some of the 10 and 12 meter. But is there any gain to having the AM carrier trans. with the LSB/USB? My Stryker 497 seems to do this also.

Should I be trans. with the AM carrier or not?

Hmmm. Possibly I have made the social media error of asking a misinterpreted question. I find if I don't know, it's better to ask. I tried.

Hell........I laughed too, but fail to understand how this strange feature on radio, which I don't understand, relates to recreational pharmaceuticals and a pimple on the ass.

I believe it’s the way you worded the post. I don’t believe anybody meant to insult you though, you know how we derail everything possible like this is some huge playground and most of us are fresh up in 2nd grade.

Or is that just me?

I’m not sure I’m following the question(s) you were asking so I don’t have an answer. Can you rephrase it and maybe give a tad more detail for us special ED kids (me mainly).

On AM 23 using the switches ANL/HI/DIM results in 26.935. being registered on freq. counter at key up with less noted swing in modulation. LSB 38 is 26.935 and does not register on freq. counter at key up. Is there a benefit to the aforementioned? I darn sure aint as professed in these radio things as you awl. I'm trying to understand/ learn why things go bump. Speaking of "bumps"......I got this "one" down low on my backside.

Straying to far from the designed frequency of the radio will naturally result in less performance-both in receive sensitivity and transmit output power. Most alignment procedures specify some instruction to the effect of "balance output between Channel 1 and 40 using VR**".

Highly unlikely you will ever see an output frequency register on a frequency counter when transmitting on sideband without modulation present. Most alignment procedures specify injecting an audio tone (1Khz or a 2 tone signal) to align the output frequency on sideband.

All of you raise a good point...

Pharmaceuticals' aside...

@RedBeard...

To help you, I think you touched on something when the radio has to recalculate the divide by frequency.

In an earlier post I mentioned about the "unexpected" channel plan you get when you use a different crystal than the 10240 - you can get your channels - yes, but they have an offset - an incorrect frequency - but to itself - the PLL thinks it's correct.

Interesting find - just promoting the idea that this isn't so far-fetched after all - (ahemn for the pun...)

I was gonna say, without a carrier, it’ll be kinda hard to a frequency on a counter at key. I take it that’s what you’re referring to, you key up and see no digits on the free counter while doing so in LSB or USB.

Now if we had some LSD, we might see a lot of things on the counter...

It's just a weird setup, don't really like it. Not sure it even works. Tried to comm with mine on AM 23 / 26.935 (switches switched) and friend on LSB 38. No go. The selections allow for some 10 and 12 meter freq. Actually was listening to CW on a 10 meter freq. this weekend. This is an old 148, it works well, just question why there would be "fooled" channels. Trying to figure out some of these things are a fun challenge.
