Hello all, so I am back up and running again. My comp 29 variable maybe 1/2 watt into box , box dk is 30. Now that being said the pep numbers are same weather box is on low med or high. So I raised the dk on radio to 2.5 to 3 watts so of course now my box is dk 50 60 watts.so were to run the radio variable?. Pep is same low med or high on box .thanks guys. I’m thinking I would just be louder and more swing with radio variable on low?

2x1446 = two 80 watt transistors.
Assuming 160 watts clean output, 160 divided 4 = 40 watts, which would be a good dead key target.
Now, swing .. assuming AM .. you can work backwards from the 160 watts target for PEP, assuming you have a true PEP reading meter.

I’d run at the 50-60 watt carrier, and leave the amp on low.

If it’s not making more power on med or high, then the extra input is gaining you nothing.

Here's a thought . . .
Each 1446 requires no more than 5w to be fully driven. That's what the spec sheet says. That is not dead key watts; that is peak. So two 1446 transistors should require no more than 10w peak. So I can only guess that amp was never designed to run a competition 29 with that kind of hot output. But hey; what do I know? Designed more for like a stock radio that has been turned down; not up.
