2 meter home-brew question

Re: 2 meter homebrew question

I have a 102" SS whip. I was wondering if it could be cut down and used as a 2 meter mobile. If so what exactly would I have to do?

Thanks,
AA

Or use a 1 piece radio antenna from a auto and cut.

They are usually 31 inches for FM radio reception..

Lots cheaper than a whip ! probley free at wrecking yard.

NOT from the Midnight Auto Supply  jk

Regards,
John

At only 19" for a quarter wave, a cut down 102" whip will be a little thick and heavy. 1/8" welding rod or 1/8" brass tubing would work good.

blu i devil,
Yeah, but you certainly wouldn't have to worry about tree limbs breaking it - LOL! Might have to replace the tree though...

'AA',
No, a 1/4 wave isn't your only option, just the easiest. You can make it any length you want. The 'catch' to that is then making a good impedance match to it. Isn't all that difficult but it isn't dead simple either.
