2 watt 10 ohms? From base to emitter? That is one time I "believe" overkill is not needed. In my experience the only time a 1/2 watt smokes or gets hot is when the transistor goes south. I also use 100 ohm in the feedback circuit but in amplifiers that are more prone to oscillation I use a value with less resistance.
I have the tx 75 and its acting just like you describe? seems like it locks up on key miked and have to turn unit power off to stop transmitting but my tech said it was a bad transistor 2n 2905a????
