I have never used headphones or speakers before until a few days ago. I used beats by dre in ear ear buds and found I could here myself like talkback when using them (didn't like it.) So today I tried my amplified jvc computer speakers and had the same talkback effect plus a squeal depending on speakers location. Can I not use an extension speaker?

I use both an amplified speaker and beats headphones with my 257hp, no talkback or squealing. I am running a TNT 600hd as well and have no issues! Good coax may help as well. I use double shielded lmr240 and lmr400. Never have had any issues with stray rf with any of my 257hp's, have 3 of them total. No chokes either. Maybe I am lucky? Hope you get it fixed. Oh yes, the speakers I use are the radio shack amplified speaker and 2 Optimus book shelf speakers I found at the local goodwill for 10 bucks. Man they work great!! And with the amplified speaker I don't have to turn up the volume much. Just my experience. God bless.

Be careful with what you try on the external speaker jack and headphones sometimes that squeal or a loud pop will damage your hearing. always try it away from your ears first. Some of the Base radios have a headphone jack , and that is different.

The signal from the headphone jack is attenuated through a resistor network.

Most assuredly the radio is mono. I have a set of headphones used in aircraft all mono. I think the microphone is poor quality and just might rig it up for use on my radios.

You must be, because I used to run a 257HP into a TNT HD 600 thru LMR-240UF into a 108 whip, and could be heard over the door bell AND the computer speakers. Later I had the same set up indoors except I used an Imax 2000 and could produce enough RF to stop our DVR from playing, and I even had chokes on the coax too.
