45w into one 2879

Definitely. I drive a 8 pill with 90 watts and that's pushing the 8 past linearity.
The Hg 2sc2879C Is a whole other animal Than the Toshiba 2sc2879. I have a Texas star 1600 with toshibas That will key 100 with 2 watts drive. I have a Paladin Tx-800 with 4 Hg 2879c that will key 100 with 10 watts drive. At vehicle voltage.

I think the gain is lower on the "C" suffix and that is why they require more drive.
Somewhere there is a spec sheet floating around that claims 150 watts out of The C and only 100 out of the straight 2879@12v
That that with a grain of salt.

I suspect that the run of " fake" Toshiba's that all have the same lot number were actually hg2979c with Shiba printed on them. They seem to work well....

They will do impressive meter numbers, I have never seen a C box that wasn't starting to spread out by the time it reached 150 watts per pill.

The 2 pill 2sc2879c with a built in low pass filter will do 500 nice and clean on the spectrum analyzer, throw in a true regulated ab bias circuit and you have ham level performance.
