6 Meters is OPEN

This HexBeam works very well for HF DX 20m thru 10. It's not very good on 6m, the Moxon beats it hands down but it's not up at the moment. We'll see what the DIY Yagi will do but it may be warmer weather before I get it built and up.
Might be an amp sometime down the road, have never owned one. Enjoy working the world with 100w and an efficient antenna.

The small amp would give you almost 800w ERP with your new beam...The SB-220 amp would yield 4,000 watts ERP :notworthy: :notworthy:

That reminds me of another project. I still have to put that Larcan amplifier together into a working package. The server power supply for it works great. 50 volts at 60 amps. The amp itself works great and has had some experimental upgrades to the input and output sections to increase the efficiency of it. It will produce over a kilowatt with 10 watts drive but I installed a 100 watt/10dB attenuator on the input so I can drive it with 100 watts and not worry about over driving it. I have a case for meters and transfer relay but just need to get my shit together and get things done. Right now however I am currently enjoying having ZERO responsibilities other than filling/cleaning the pellet stove and clearing the yard if/when it snows. I like retirement. :giggle:

The ARRL January VHF Contest begins 1900 UTC Saturday, January 18 and ends 0359 UTC Monday, January 20. For amateurs in the US and Canada (and their possessions), the goal is to work as many amateur stations in as many different 2 degrees x 1 degree Maidenhead grid squares as possible using authorized frequencies above 50 MHz.

I have a theory why the images above are as they are, but I may offend a few people. Then again that has never stopped me before so here goes...........I think it is because of the new generation wanting to get maximum returns for minimal input. Why spend time and effort trying to contact a complete stranger when the computer can do it for them. There are a few exceptions of course. Combine that with the ever-changing band conditions on 6m, and you have a recipe for minimum effort with maximum returns. Not for me however but to each his own.
